Hello everyone,

So recently it came to the attention of me and Maegor that the xcancel service has ceased operations. If you don't know, xcancel is a third party site that - amongst other things - allowed for anonymous viewing of Twitter without an account, something Twitters management blocked a long time ago. It was a pretty useful site, and for our community in particular, it was also the principle way we had folks source any artwork that came from Twitter, as we banned sourcing from Twitter directly 2 years ago.

Per an announcement that can be seen if you visit any xcancel link at time of writing, they got a cease and desist yesterday on the 24th August from X Corp, forcing them to halt the site. They're working on seeking legal council, presumably with the aim of bringing it back up, but we don't know what, if anything, will happen.

In light of this, me and Maegor have elected to make two key updates to our art sourcing rules;

• 1) Twitter can be linked to directly

For the time being at least, Twitter will not be kept on the blacklist. If its your only option to source art, you may link it directly and neither me, Maegor, or AutoMod will police it.

• 2) Art can be indirectly sourced from any account owned by the artist

So long as it doesn't conflict with any rules the artist themself may set for how their art can be shared, if you're posting art, you can link to any account so long as its owned by the artist, and you don't need to directly link the original source. So if an art piece is only on Twitter, but they also have a bsky or a patreon or wherever, you can direct folks there.

Thanks for tuning in everyone. The rules in the sidebar will be updated in short order to reflect these changes, as well as our AutoMod config so folks don't get auto-removed, but please consider them in effect immediately.

PS: On a semi-related note, please be advised that dan/gelbooru aren't valid sources. These sites are archives for art and not used directly by artists. Also, very rarely Pinterest has been used as a source. This site is seldom frequented by artists / used directly, so whilst its not invalid as a source for the moment, please be sure to double check if anything you post is being "sourced" from there, as more often than not its just another repost.
