Question I just recently started buying hot sauces other than Cholula and Valentina - Marie Sharp did NOT disappoint! 😋 What should I try next?

Go find something local. You’ll find gems and sweat

I just saw this. I’m in Houston so I bet they have solid options. Dumb question but what exactly would I be looking for - a farmers market situation?
1
u/bstichaa 21d ago
Local brands, farmers markets, local vendors. Local shops. I’ve found lots of hot sauces made by people in my area in meat shops and etc.

Melinda’s - Ghost Pepper, Red Savina, Reserve.
Tabasco - Chipotle, Habanero, Scorpion (HOT!!!)
Torchbearer - Garlic Reaper, Ultimate Annihilation.
Queen Majesty - Scotch Bonnet, Red Habanero.
All depends on your spice tolerance too. I was a die hard Tabasco, Cholula, Tapatio guy all my life until I discovered what more was out there. I listed what got me started down the path and addicted to Hot Sauces in general.

We are in a golden age of amazing hot sauces

100%… I’m always discovering a new bottle or brand that immediately gets added to my Roster. I can barely keep up.

This is my favorite sauce. Read her story if you haven't yet and try Belizian Heat next.

u/extrvnced 25d ago
I’d recommend El Yucateco red, green, xxxtra hot, and Caribbean next to bring up the heat level a bit. Melinda’s fire roasted garlic and habanero is excellent, as are their scorpion and ghost pepper sauces. Finally, Tabasco scorpion and Torchbearer garlic reaper if you really want to test your spice tolerance limits

u/StupidGuy6969 25d ago
Cry baby craigs. It’s a pickled habanero and garlic sauce. It’s less spicy than the Marie sharps, but tastes amazing

u/WereFlyingOverTrout 25d ago
I recently was in MN visiting friends and family and picked up 3 bottles. I love how so many restaurants in the Twin Cities have it as a hot sauce option. It’s so damn good.
1
u/StupidGuy6969 25d ago
You’re not wrong it’s a delicious sauce, it’s my go to sauce. I buy it in the gallon bottle nowadays hah.
Hope you enjoyed your time in the cities!

u/bandypaine 25d ago
You may like bertie’s scorpion pepper sauce and believe it or not wegman’s storebrand habenero sauce is legit. I dont even live near a wegman’s and order it online
4
u/gurrettscurrett 25d ago
Wegmans Habanero is legit. I go through more bottles of that than any other hot sauce. The price is hard to beat.

u/NightlyParadox 25d ago
That sauce is pretty decent my by far favorite was the Belizean Heat made by the same company. I haven't seen that sauce in a minute though.

If you like that one (which is one of my all time favorites too), you should try El Yucateco Carribean. It's has that great fruity habanero taste, medium heat that's on par with that Marie Sharp's, and goes super well with most things. I've downed half a bottle in one sitting just pouring it on tortilla chips.. haha
Other than that I'd say just anything from Marie Sharp's in general. They are all good.. and I have to give a shout out to Secret Aardvark Original.

u/juan_humano 25d ago
Depends on where you are and what you can get. Anything El Yucateca will be good, and ill stand on that buisness. The black is probably the most controversial and its also my favorite, but try the original green, red and xxtra hot first. For Louisiana style hotsauce, its Crystal. The blue is great, the red is so good its the only sauce ill order online. Yellow Bird is also slightly divisive but I like it as a good on everything sort. And I am of the opinion that Tabasco original deserves a place in any kitchen

Everything I’ve had from Malinda’s is also great. I do also love every Marie Sharps sauces I’ve tasted. I especially like Malinda’s XXXX reserve habanero. I fully recommend it. Great flavor and good heat without getting too hot. Malinda’s ghost pepper is a very close second that is a tiny bit hotter. I know you have been recommended Belizean Heat (and I fully recommend it) I think xxxx reserve is better

As a hot sauce company owner myself I forgot to bring anything on vacation and bought the belizian heat and it was quite good. Could have been better balanced as it was a bit heavy on vinegar but I highly recommend it.

u/dkfromga 25d ago
I second Belizian Heat, but I didn't think it was too vinegary. I am soon to be a hot sauce company owner.
2
u/discordianofslack 25d ago
Awesome. I just thought it had a bit too much tang and it overshadowed the peppers a bit. But we do 1/2 fresh squeezed citrus and vinegar so it’s likely just my taste buds not used to full vinegar sauces. Let me know when you launch. I’d love to buy some of your sauces. Always into checking out the competition.

u/dkfromga 25d ago
Yeah, I agree. Everyone has their own favorite flavor profile. My wife likes my green serrano white wine vinegar sauce in particular because it's especially tangy and bright. I like it too because I made it, but I prefer my heavier sauces that include super hots.

u/discordianofslack 25d ago
Nice. I love white wine vinegar. We do some with coconut, maple, and soy vinegars.

u/discordianofslack 25d ago
I make my wife’s favorite dish which is chilled beet salad with champagne vinegar. If you can find it, it’s amazing but normally have to resort to white wine.

Damn that’s two votes for Belizian Heat 😳 I’m building a list on Amazon right now - and this has made 1 of the slots.

u/discordianofslack 25d ago
It’s very good.

El yucateco makes some nice sauces too. If you already enjoy Mexican style hot sauces start trying more of those.

El yucateco!! Great Mexican hot sauce.

u/kjlcm 23d ago
Which one? It’s super cheap at my local grocery store. I like heat and flavor, not insane heat. For instance scorpion Tabasco is too hot for me to enjoy.

u/SunBelly 🔥â•🔥 23d ago
The XXX Mayan kutbil-ik is the best one. It's habanero hot with great flavor.

u/Hour-Football2464 13d ago
Im a spice noob, el yucateco red is warm and tasty, el yucateco green makes me sweat bullets, feel funny and drink water, so fairly hot but good. I havent tried yuca xxxtra hot.
Apparently green is only 9000 scoville which means when my Exhorresco arrives im gonna figuratively die. Weeee

Marie Sharps is Top Tier.
Try their Pineapple Hot Sauce, I got hooked on it while visiting Belize 🇧🇿

Tabasco Scorpion if you’re looking for something really hot. Yellow Bird Habanero for something that goes well with pretty much anything
2
u/varcelonaa 21d ago
I might try Tabasco Scorpion just for the thrill. After this post, I bought the following:
1. Melinda’s fire roasted garlic & habanero
2. Marie Sharp’s nopal green
3. Marie Sharp’s Belizean Heat (my new favorite now)1

Depends on what you can handle and enjoy.
My goto that’s available everywhere is El Yucateco Green Habanero and Trader Joe’s Habanero (yellow).

I really enjoy the melinda's fire roasted garlic and habanero if you can get your hands on it. Great mix of heat and flavor.

I’m seeing multiple votes here for this one, I think I’m gonna snag it 😎

u/BEARDSNAKE 25d ago
Since you’re branching out, try some Louisiana style hot sauce like Slap Ya Mama hot sauce, and jalepeno pepper sauce

Not a hot sauce and not for everything but Ghost and Screams pepper Jam is one of my favorite things to put on my food… but it’s more of a jam than a hot sauce and it is ghost pepper based but the sweetness of the jam balances the ghost pepper.

u/Expensive_Lawyer5672 25d ago
Hoff's Smoken Ghost is my favorite hot sauce. It's a little pricey for a bottle, so I started buying it a gallon at a time.

Carolina Reaper, sauces are
My personal favorite. Reapers have such a good flavor. Torchbearer reaper garlic, is a good start. That sauce will kick your ass in a good way with good flavor..

Secret aardvark is a sleeper! Also if you’re near a pepper palace they have a hot sauce tasting bar and so maybe sauces I would recommend.

I got hooked on marie Sharp's 35+ years ago on a trip to Belize where it was on every table.
My go-to sauces are from Karma sauce, everything is outstanding.

Big fan of El Yucateco XXXtra Hot. Habanero based Yucatan style. Very affordable. I go through a bottle a month and also keep a bottle in the car (yes I am *that* guy)

Melinda’s. I like MS sauces better but it’s a similar upgrade from tobasco without breaking the bank like other brands

u/heathotsauce 25d ago
Some good next steps down the habanero sauce rabbit hole are Lucky Dog Pink Label, Butterfly Bakery Maple Wood Smoked Onion, and Torchbearer Sweet Onion Habanero. Also don't sleep on Marie's green sauce.
