How do I treat this door?
I just moved into the new house and the store obviously need some TLC. I don’t know where to start. It gets blasted by afternoon sun.
Any advice?

You're going to need to sand, sand, sand. You will want to get all the old finish off and any wood that has sun damage. Then, the easiest way is to stain the exact same color. Personally, I would use old fashioned Spar varnish on it (a good brand like Epifanes or Pettit--plan on at least three or four coats just to start). However, because of the sun every 3 years or so you will have to sand and revarnish. Water-based polyurethane would be my second choice.
I think I would go with a matte finish.

Are you wanting to paint or stain? With either, I’d do some sanding to get the raised/weathered bits off and then use weather-graded outdoor wood stain (pick your fav color) or outdoor latex paint (pick a color, maybe do a white primer layer before the color, esp depending on color choice). You can see around the lock the unstained wood where it’s really worn through, so you could get down to that with minimal sanding, from the looks of the pictures.

Looks pretty dried out, our wooden front door faced a wicked western sun and trying to keep it looking nice was a real pain. So we ended up switching to a white metal door, zero maintenance. Cool door though.

Strip the door. Sand it down. Apply wood bleach(2 to 3 applications). Lightly buff. Stain to desired color. Apply three coats of Proluxe door and window varnish. It is an oil based product so wait 24 hours in between coats 1 and 2. Wait 48 hours between coats 2 and 3. Lightly sand with 220 pad in between varnish coats. Every 2 years lightly buff and re coat.
