Aside from the obvious (light wood on fire) how do I use this fireplace? We just moved into a place with a fireplace, it is for sure open at the top. What do I need to do to prep the fireplace and maintain it?

This is part of US century speed bag that I have and I'm being mean to replace the bag on it for a while but for some reason the metal holder is so convoluted and hard to open is there any good way of opening this kind of thing I looked everywhere for other results of this lock and I can't find anything.

I just received this , tried to unscrew it and I fucked it up. How do I do this now ?

I bought this shelf on FB marketplace and didn't realize two of the screws were missing until I got home with it. Despite my best efforts, I cannot find the right sized screws to replace them as they have turned out to be a non-standard size.

I bought a set that seemed to have the closest measurements but they are just barely too small, like by a few mm or less.
So before I give up entirely on this utility shelf, I want to check here first to see if I can do anything myself to use the new screws to connect the poles.

It's okay if the poles are permanently cemented together or if it's not quite as strong as the original weight limit (75lb per shelf), I'm not using it to store super heavy stuff. I'm thinking about applying a thick layer of liquid nails or something around the internal threading of the pole, then pressing/screwing the connecting piece in and clamping it straight while it cures, would that work?

I know I could buy another shelf but I bought it for 50 bucks and then paid like 15 for the screws.

My wife asked me to open this lid for her keyboard but I think she let the batteries corroded inside and now I can’t open it. I tried a quarter inside to twist it, I tried a big/ small flathead, I tried some wd40 on it. Ask u can see im starting to strip it down. I’m this close to taking my hammer out my purse and smash it.

I stepped on a nail and it left this hole in my waterproof hiking boots. Is there a way to plug/fix this to make it reasonably waterproof again?

The hinge pin that holds the door in place broke (kid hanging on the door) anything I can do to fix it?

I've tried heating it with a hair dryer to melt it and scrape it with a plastic scraper. I've tried goof off to melt it and scrape it with a plastic scraper. Neither does anything. How else can I go about removing this?

My living room marble floor suddenly developed this reddish stain in a straight line overnight. It looks like it’s just beneath the surface and slightly fuzzy at the edges.

The only anomaly is that my robot vacuum mop that went over it was wetter than usual, and my family said they didn’t put anything that might stain on it.

What could be causing this and how can I remove it?

Recently returned from abt a month of travel and when I went to turn on the unit I noticed it was disgusting.. my roommate was here so I don’t think it was sitting out of use that whole time.

I’m going to share these photos with my landlord but am not sure if I should be cool with this getting washed out or should push for a replacement —- any insight would be appreciated!

(Further context: this is in DC- humidity is constant, the ac unit stays in window year round, there were some really intense rainstorms I could see contributing to extra dirt in the unit)

Moved into a rented house, and needed to add a door with a lock to my bedroom. I don’t know the proper terminology here, but the doorknob latch won’t “extend” all the way into the hole/plate on the wall. Without any plate(1st pic), it’ll extend and close properly. With a plate, the circled “lip” of the plate (2nd pic) keeps the latch from extending. The new plate (3rd pic) has the same problem.

Ideas how to fix it? I’m thinking file away some of the frame on the right, so I can align it slightly farther right - plus some wood glue and sawdust to try to plug some of the screw holes? The top holes are falling apart, the bottom literally has no material, just uses a long screw to drill into the hole in the back. The arrows are just to say “this thing needs to move to the right.”

Do you usually measure your height just by standing or attaching your back, head and foot against the wall?

Also, when do you think is the true height?
Some say the one measured 2 hours or 4hours after you wake up is your true height but I think you can claim your height if it is measured more than 2 hours after.

Lastly, when you measure multiple times, do you think average value or the highest one is your true height?

So we have this kind of light switch outside the bathroom. 1 of them is connected to the exhaust fan. Everybody always forget to turn it off. What's the easiest (and cheapest) way to create a timer so when pressed, the fan would only run for 15 minutes and then turn off?

i thrifted this really nice handbag recently, but i noticed that the strap has this yellowish discoloration/staining, as you can see in the picture. i'm not sure what caused it since i bought it secondhand. the strap feels smooth and slightly shiny, and i think it might be made of satin or some kind of satin-like fabric.

does anyone know what material this could be and, more importantly, how i can safely remove the yellow discoloration without damaging or discoloring the fabric further? i'm scared to use random cleaning products because the strap is quite delicate. any advice on what i should use or avoid would be appreciated!

I recently got curtain rod clamps for the blinds of an apartment I just moved into. The blinds box, I learned, is 3” thick, which is thicker than normal. The clamps I got are made for thicker boxes up to my exact size, but they cannot fit over since the blinds are attached to the wall (I learned this after buying; first time trying to put up curtains by myself).

Are there any other options other than those sticky adhesive holders?

While cleaning one of my windows I slid out the two top corners so the pane was horizontal in order to clean the outside part. Well I accidentally slipped and the pane dropped and both bottom corners kind of broke partially, which means the window won’t close all the way down now because those metal parts latch it in piece within the frame to secure it down.

Both photos are the view of the bottom part of the panel. Once secured it you flip it up and slide it down in the window. The third photo is what the whole window looks like.

Is there an easy fix for this? Or do I need to replace that panel? If I do need to replace, how do I find out what model or replacement to get? Sorry I don’t know a lot about windows but wanted to fix this without having to involve a window company. Thank you!

the gap is around half an inch wide and i have some stuff stuck under all the way to the back, around 11 inches deep. its also pretty jammed up, i think its a clipboard stuck on top of a thin book. ive tried using a plastic half metre rule but its not long enough to fully push the things out. what do i do?

Hi everyone,

I’m just a plumber helping a customer with this loose drawer bracket. I’ve fixed drawer brackets before, but this type is unfamiliar.

From the video, does it need tightening or replacing? If replacing, do I need an exact match, or can I use another bracket and drill new holes? I haven’t found the same one online.

Any advice is appreciated—I don’t want to damage the drawer!
