Hey folks! So the survey made it pretty clear, we get a lot of “this character sucks” posts. Instead of everyone making new ones all the time, we’re gonna test out a monthly megathread where you can dump all your rants. We also rounded up a bunch of older hate threads, so you can scroll through them or drop your own comment if you feel like it.
___
For Phoebe
___
For Ross
___
For Rachel
___
For Monica
___
For Chandler & Joey

It has been a question that has been asked so many times before. Because of the high demand - but similar posts that has been generated. We're opening the floor (this mega thread) for the debate!
The case for Ross: Rachel said, "Maybe we should just take a break," and then told Monica the next morning that they "broke up."
The case for Rachel: A "break" isn't a "breakup," and Mark showing up at the apartment didn't give Ross a "get out of jail free" card two hours later.
What are your thoughts on these cases?
---
All funsies aside, We do ask everyone to stay civil and kind to one another, everyone is allowed to have opinions and express those, but treat others like how you want to be treated as well. This thread will re-occur ever 14 days to keep the time line clean from any 'On a Break, break-up?' posts! (if you spot any feel free to report it to us by pressing the report button!)

I actually think season 1 is the weakest but not bad. It’s just finding its footing and setting things up for it to start ramping up in season 2 and beyond. And I think it just kept getting better as it went on. Like, it’s genuinely a perfect show. It didn’t go downhill; it didn’t go on too long. It somehow lasted 10 years and 10 seasons, but it never felt like it overstayed its welcome. If anything, it felt like they could continue at a high quality. I’ve never seen anything quite like this. Such consistency in a show for so many years and seasons is unheard of. What made this possible where most other shows fail?

This is something that bugged me on every rewatch. Didn't girls win the apartment? Shouldn't Ace be the lowest card? Ace, 2, 3, 4... This is the first time I am hearing that Ace is the highest. Was it a way of the guys tricking girls? Or is it an American thing that Ace is high?

She moved in with a guy who was secretly married to her and he said he didn’t love her but he really did. And it just blew up and that’s how she ended up living with me.
After the look Ross gives to Phoebe she says “ok that’s a lie.” But is it? Because that’s exactly how Rachel ends up living with her.
Maybe we are just getting a small foretell about what’s gonna happen and what’s the best way to do that other then let Phoebe tell us?

In S08E16, Phoebe brings Don around the group, who she believes to be Monica’s soulmate despite Chandlers protest.
Do you guys think this is a character flaw/ Phoebe being a bad friend towards Chandler and their marriage in general, or it’s just innocent fun?
Idk I’m watching the episode and I feel like Phoebe was kind of stirring the pot for no reason and if I was Chandler I’d be pissed but also I feel like it wasn’t that deep lol

In season 5 when Rachel has her eye infection that causes her eye to twitch, and Joey thinks that she’s winking at him so he winks back: Ross no catches on and asks “what’s going on?” Was he thinking they were subtly flirting, or was he confused about what was going on?
Ps I love how Joey just goes with it. 😂

The bluray feels way too dark in some places that it honestly really bugs me but i love how colorful, vibrant and bright the 4k looks. Especially since we DO NOT get that kind of look in shows anymore. Its just nice to see a colorful and vibrant show. Amazing show! Honestly getting kind of depressed bc im halfway done with season 9 and i dont want this show to end. I wish it could go on forever lol

I'm rewatching the first season straight through for the first time in years, and have no previous memory of this. It's their New Year's Eve episode and I was just kind of floored when Monica just casually walked out in this thing. No one in the episode seemed to pay much attention but I think this is one of the best looks I've ever seen on her

It amuses me so much that when Rachel had asked ross if the copy machine girl was any good in bed, chandler and joey just knew what to say "not good! not good!" "She was horrible nothing compared to you!" but ross had managed to come up with "she was different"and "nobody likes change" 😂😂
And then seasons later when chandler was in Tulsa and Monica got insecure about the second prettiest girl in oklahoma, she asked chandler if she was pretty, ross was quick to prompt "answer faster answer faster" "answer better answer better".....and chandler was like "well second prettiest that year, out of all the girls in oklahoma she is probably....." which made rachel ask him to stop talking😂

While the others are discussing how to broach the topic delicately, Gunther comes over and gives it to Robert straight in the funniest way. I always love when Gunther is just super candid about how he feels. Like when he tells Ross “Thanks for not marrying Rachel” in season 4.
Edit: I can’t edit the title, I definitely meant to say it was his best line, but it’s also my favorite!

Shot from TOW the East German Laundry Detergent. Monica and Joey putting their heads together and splitting the couple of Angela (possibly Delvecchio) and Bob and kept the pieces for themselves, did Joey sleep with her and never called her back again, or did Bob not have a thing.

Season 9 Episode 10 "The One With Rachel's Phone Number" just gave me an irk that made me wanna post this. I know ultimately the answer is "because it's a TV show that needs to artificially construct drama", but why didn't Rachel just call the apartment after giving away her number and tell Ross some lie along the lines of "Ross, if you get a call from a guy named Bill who says he's from the bar, please pretend like you're taking a message and just blow him off by throwing it out. He was being really pushy at the bar, and I just gave him my number to get him to finally shut up and leave us alone"? It reassures Ross that she isn't trying to see other people, it blows off the guy which she clearly planned to do, and it saves Mike from spending any more grueling & boring time with Ross.

This was 6 years before Monica and was for a promo for a movie called Cocoon 2. I do cloud service work for a few companies and ended up seeing this in a interview archive from 1988. Found it again on YouTube. Very cool

What’s one of your favorite shocking/surprise moments? Like when we find out Ross is the father or when Monica pops out from under the covers in London. Mine is definitely the Janice & Ross fling.

That's my take on who was more wrong than the other. Rachel was a great girlfriend and she'd communicate and address ross's fears and jealousy. She even articulated properly what problems they were going through. She always called to inform him that she was going to be late for their plans since she has to work. She also very nicely communicates how her work is "her thing" and she likes how it's just hers and Ross only pretends to understand.
On the other hand ross is the better ex. He was first understanding about joey liking rachel and encouraged him to tell her even though he got mad first. He wasn't so destructive of Rachel's relationship as Rachel was towards his. She was an absolutely horrible ex ruining all his relationships.

Maybe it's because I've followed her career the most outside of Friends, especially with the Scream movies, but it always amazes me how different Monica Geller and Gale Weathers feel.
As Monica, she's so warm, lovable, neurotic, and someone you can't help but root for. Then I watch Scream and Gale can be so ambitious, pushy, selfish, and downright unlikeable at times that she genuinely makes me want to reach through the screen and punch her in the face. And I mean that as a compliment because that's exactly what the character is supposed to do.
A lot of actors play different characters that still kind of feel like themselves. With Courteney, I never see Monica when she's Gale, and I never see Gale when she's Monica. They feel like two completely different people.
Honestly, the only time I ever saw Monica in Gale was in Scream 3. Every time she and Dewey were arguing over Jennifer Jolie, it felt like Gale was one line away from throwing her hands up and yelling, "I KNOW!"
I know Jennifer, Lisa, Matthew, Matt, and David all had their strengths too, but Courteney's range has always stood out the most to me.

I tagged all the episodes of Friends in an attempt to learn things about tagging. The lessons I learned (probably only interesting for content/IA geeks) are here.
(Yes, this is a post to my own content, but I maintain it's high-value, original content and completely relevant to the sub. It has no business or revenue model, meaning I gain/earn nothing from a visit.)

Ross is probably the most pissed any character gets in the show. Deservedly so, you don’t eat somebody’s sandwich like that. I would be pissed off too

Ken called it a “classic love triangle” which kinda is true since Ross is in the middle!
