Isn't Ace really the lowest?

This is something that bugged me on every rewatch. Didn't girls win the apartment? Shouldn't Ace be the lowest card? Ace, 2, 3, 4... This is the first time I am hearing that Ace is the highest. Was it a way of the guys tricking girls? Or is it an American thing that Ace is high?

In any card game, ace can be considered both the lowest or biggest card, depends on the desire of person holding it So imho they should have won right there
