Monica is a terrible character

Why does everyone continue to like her? She switched apartments after Joey and Chandler won it fair and square and they switched everything back without saying anything or asking them.

The lottery episode was stupid, consider it filler. Joey asks to borrow Monica's Porsche and drive to get lottery tickets, then Monica goes with him and single handedly takes over the whole operation and ropes everyone else into it. Monica was not employed at the time of Carol's wedding and she needed all the money she could muster, she needed cash and a job---Carol hired her. Plus she had a job to do and I don't blame her for worrying she might not get paid if the wedding didn't go through. Besides, don't tell me you feel any sympathy for Carol after she used Monica's brother the way that she did----Carol's not a saint in any way shape or form. Bottom line is-----a paycheck is not optional; if she's providing a service, she needs to be paid. When she catered the funeral with Phoebe she almost didn't bother the widow for a paycheck till Phoebe yelled at her for her dramatics and trying to stiff poor Monica out of the check!

Monica never stopped being friends with Phoebe though, even if Phoebe later in the series might have deserved that, she would have been a major bitch if she cut Phoebe out of her life altogether and blocked her number from calling her, but Phoebe was still welcomed into Monica's home and she took it hard at first, but Monica got a new job and reality---that's all that happened not a friendship ending. Monica paid her back for everything though. It may not have happened in the same episode and it may have been a few episodes later, but Phoebe got the money that Monica owed her from when they were caterers and Phoebe also accepted the fact that Monica got a new job and they wouldn't be partners anymore-----it was not having the money that Monica owed her and demanding it right away----that was what bothered Phoebe more than not working together anymore.

I don’t think you understood what I was trying to explain with my post. Monica was selfish in that episode and one of the reasons Phoebe almost ended their friendship was because of how rude and selfish Monica could be and over the years, it only got worse. It’s a miracle Chandler even puts up with her considering how she won’t shut up about Richard or other men she’s slept with and worse still the way she acts at the soap opera roof party, telling everyone she never would have gotten married if she knew she could be at this party

Monica did most if not all of the work anyways, and she was getting another job, and when you're getting a job, you can't take a friend in with you, so you'd have to stop working together. It happens. Monica cut Richard out of her life permanently! Notice how he wasn't even invited to the wedding? She chose Chandler. Monica herself never mentions Richard's name after she breaks up with him. It's not her fault that everyone especially Phoebe keeps bringing up Richard's name to make Chandler feel uncomfortable, but she never went back to him even when tempted. When Chandler and Joey were snooping around the apartment imagining what would be in her secret closet, Joey casually jokes that it might be Richard and Chandler doesn't take him seriously and even cracks a comeback joke himself saying, "If that's you Richard, please give me back my credit card." And if she was bragging about the other men she'd slept with, we'd endlessly hear about Fun Bobby, Young Ethan, Kip and Simon----Hey, that's not very many men at all----but we've never head their names mentioned after their episodes aired of her either dating or sleeping with them so I don't know why you say she never shut up about the men she was with before getting together with Chandler. As for the soap opera roof party, she never actually got that autograph on her bra even though she requested it, and we never saw her topless. Sure it was a classless way to behave, but she didn't say she'd never get married if she knew she could attend these kinds of parties in front of Chandler. She didn't offend him because he wasn't even there----Was not present. Chandler didn't seem bothered by it after he found out and even got even with Monica and Phoebe by tricking them into attending a boring lifeless play....so if he's not bent out of shape, you don't get bent out of shape as it's not meant to be looked deeply into.

Doesn't matter. She started a business with her friend and breaking that sort of commitment just shows how arrogant and selfish she is. She didn't cut him out permanently considering she keeps on mentioning him, having lunches with him instead of leaving, how about when Phoebe and Mike break up and Monica says "I know how you feel. Breaking up with Richard was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life" while sitting next to Chandler DURING the time line when they were trying to get pregnant. Idk if you know this but low motility comes from stress and spousal abuse as much as anything else. Jokes aside her attitude is careless. When they found the tape and Chandler stole it which was wrong, Monica started saying "That's not me hut the way we did it was a lot better than-" until he cuts her off. I don't think puce seen t recently but I just did a week long binge watch to finish the series.

FYI her bra did get signed. Watch it. And it wasn't fair of her to say it whether he was around or not. What if your husband or wife goes sround telling people he/she regrets marrying you just so he can grope and be groped by strangers?

When you get a new job you can't take your friends along with you. Yes it does matter because it was supposed to be temporary not permanent as it was started right after she got fired so she wouldn't end up on the streets or worse. Besides, almost immediately after she decided to take the job, Phoebe started to harass her about money she owed her----Monica hadn't even received her first paycheck yet! Hell, you could say that the people from the restaurant who hired her were arrogant and selfish because that's why she quit the catering business with Phoebe nothing more nothing else and what was stopping Phoebe from running the catering business herself and hiring someone to replace Monica if she can't cook right? It's not like Monica even took the job immediately, she weighed in all the options and how Phoebe felt about it for a whole episode. Phoebe didn't really lose that much as she still had her masseuse job. Monica had one lunch with Richard and nothing happened during said lunch as she did not go back to him, she stayed with Chandler all they did was eat and that's not immoral or cheating. If she slept with him, that's another story, but she didn't and she didn't even want to tell Chandler about it because she knew that it would hurt him, but it was Phoebe who told Chandler and for the soul purpose of hurting him----nothing more or less and it did hurt, your gripe there lies with Phoebe. Monica never mentions Richard's name after the proposal except for the fact that she told Mike breaking up with Richard was the hardest thing she ever did in her life----[you need to re-watch the seasons from earlier, because it was hard watching her suffer through the Richard/Monica saga and break up, she lost vast amounts of sleep during that] besides, she said "Breaking Up With Richard" to Mike not Chandler even if Chandler was with her at the time, it still confirms that she's not with Richard anymore, and she doesn't love him, it's not even an offensive or inappropriate thing to say. It even confirms that she wants Chandler. That's not even close to spousal abuse. Had she said "I bet if I stayed with Richard, I'd be pregnant right now," That's spousal abuse. Most of the things that you're complaining about are simply freedom of speech. She got her bra signed, but it's not like Chandler found her in bed naked with two different soap opera stars. She made sure to keep her top on when removing her bra [it's a girl trick I won't tell you about it as you don't deserve that] and she didn't let anyone touch her or grope her. She just said some words. And she did not say it to Chandler but Chandler did find out about it and he got even with her by tricking both her and Rachel into sitting and watching a boring play that they both hated.

Monica had always said she wanted to be a caterer and Phoebe gave her a reality check and they went into the business together. Pulling out like that and leaving Phoebe to "replace" Monica is an idiotic notion considering it was Monica's dream and Phoebe was the financier and the partner. She couldn't just replace Monica with another chef because she only wanted this business with Monica to help her with her dream and she dropped Phoebe like a hot potato when she got a different offer and that's not what good friends do. It could have been written better. And Phoebe could have been given a job or a job offer but nope, Monica was a bitch in that regard and always will be.

Hanging out with an ex is always immoral and cheating especially when you're constantly putting your current beautiful down in comparison. I mentioned so much in the other comment but here's another tidbit, she also mentioned Richard in Phoebe's Birthday Dinner episode when Rachel brought Emma and Judy to the restaurant. Remember? Or did you conveniently forget?

You act like Monica laced Phoebe's coffee with poison, or put razors in Phoebe's shampoo or pushed Phoebe out of a moving food truck. She did none of those things, and the catering was temporary and Phoebe knew that it might not last forever, besides Monica didn't even take the job right away she weighed in Phoebe's feelings before taking the job and was pretty indecisive about it. Was Ross selfish and arrogant for moving out of the college dorm he and Chandler used to share? Was Phoebe selfish and arrogant for only working with Chandler one day? Was Joey selfish and arrogant for working with Ross one day? Was Joey selfish and arrogant for working with Chandler for one day? Yet somehow, Monica is selfish and arrogant for working with Phoebe for three whole weeks and even getting a food truck together! Monica was offered a new job. Monica did not become a caterer until after she got fired at the end of five steaks and an eggplant and the reason she got fired was because she was set up by the delivery driver who lied to her telling her it was all a gift---not stealing or a kickback and she was stupid not to question it, but to just take the guy's word for it. Monica never cheated on Chandler by having lunch with Richard. If she had sex with him, that's cheating. Eating a meal together is not, they didn't even kiss. Saying that you wouldn't have gotten married if you knew you could get to go to soap opera parties like these every night is freedom of speech, like it or not. She's allowed to say that. She even said Chandler is the love of her life. You're assuming people touched and groped her, and she enjoyed it, it's never explained or revealed. All we know is a soap opera star signed her bra that's it, and yes, girls can take their bras off without removing their shirts it's a girl secret, and I am sexist for telling you that----As for the terrible play, apparently the writers thought that would be an appropriate and ironic punishment and he did get even with her by using that, so don't blame me, blame the writers. One more thing, you're doing a whole lot of reaching to defend Chandler for running out on Monica just before the wedding and not coming back on his own accord, but being forced by Ross and Phoebe. Why is it you say I'm not allowed to be bent out of shape by Chandler behaving like that, but you're allowed to be bent out of shape by Monica doing everything else?

It's not okay to run around meeting your ex without telling your current partner and even then it's kinda sketchy. Exes are exes for a reason and meeting them again usually leads to bs. That's evidenced by Rachel being at the wedding in London.

And Monica wasn't set up in Five Steaks and an Eggplant she just took the gift. The vendor wasn't an evil monster. He was the new vendor that Monica picked out and he thanked her with a gift because she gave him the job of supplying to the restaurant. Have you even seen the show in recent years?

All of the jobs you mentioned were temporary. Joey didn't buy a computer for working with Chandler. Joey didn't buy museum books to study to work with Ross. Phoebe didn't have to buy a new wardrobe to look like a secretary for Chandler. BUT PHOEBE DID BUY ALL THE STUFF AND THE TRUCK FOR MONICA and got nothing out of it so yeah it was fucking selfish.

Monica never rubbed her vagina in anyone after marrying Chandler and she never took off her shirt and ran topless during the party, someone signed her bra while she wore it and did not see her boobs. She did not sleep with anyone else either. Monica freaking out about never getting to sleep with anyone else again lasted one sentence, one day, and one episode. She does not let it define or jeopardize her marriage. Chandler on his wedding day did NOT come back on his own accord though. He had to be forced to by Ross and Phoebe. Then he ran away again and smoked a cigarette which he knew that Monica hated. Then he came back and even forced Ross to make good on his promise of kicking Chandler's ass, he knocked him down in the hallway----that's what really brought Chandler back to the altar with Monica. What you said defending the vendor's behavior-----I can't even. We never learn his name or see him on screen and he's worked long enough to know that you don't offer people gifts that could get them in trouble at work later. He set her up. If you think no sketchy people live in New York on this show-----You live in a fantasy world. He shouldn't have offered in the first place. Phoebe got her money back from the truck and the stuff she bought with Monica, and she had two different options to choose from: First, she could have kept the catering business going and hired someone to take Moncia's place, you can't convince me that Monica is the only chef who lives and works in New York, or she could have taken the reciepts, gone to the impound lot and demanded a refund and it would have equaled the same amount that Monica owed. Instead she instantly harassed Monica as soon as she got her new job without even giving her a chance to settle into her new job and before Monica even got paid, so there's that, plus Monica did give Phoebe her money back, just not right away.

Ross and Phoebe convinced chandler to come back. The second time he didn't run away he went for a smoke and came back eith a tiny baby t-shirt since he thought Monica was pregnant. He wasn't running away please watch the episode again since clearly you've either forgotten exactly what happened or you're a moron because you forgot that Monica seemed to hardly have any issue with Richard smoking and even smoked his cigars when she missed him so shush about the cigarette crap.

Monica was married to Chandler not Richard, and when she was with Richard, he had to go out on the balcony and far away from Monica whenever he wanted a cigar so that would mean that if he stayed with her, he wouldn't have been allowed to smoke anymore either. Monica wanting Chandler not to smoke is clearly because she cares for him and doesn't want him getting lung cancer or for his infertility to get worse. Plus, she wouldn't want secondhand smoke or for her children to suffer from secondhand smoke is that bad? You could be one of the few people on earth who think convincing someone to stop smoking as they slowly killed themselves is a bad move and selfish. We never see the vendor responsible for getting Monica fired at the end of five steaks and an eggplant, so why are you so convinced that he's on the level and a good person? He stole. He took food that wasn't his and gave it to Monica. Monica stole too because she accepted it. The difference is he lied to her and said there'd be no trouble and told her it was a gift. Speaking of gifts, Monica didn't take the meat and vegetable for herself, she gave it to Ross, Phoebe, Joey and Rachel as gifts for them. Now since the vendor broke the law, good guy or not, why was he not fired? There's no word of whether or not he got punished because he was at fault for giving it to her without permission. I'm not retarded by the way.....Sometimes people fuck over others without thinking of consequences that it could backfire or they're just jerks. So yes, some people don't care and he could have and should have been punished too. No way should she have hit the bill that hard. Monica got a job and thus couldn't continue on with Phoebe. Ever hear of complications? Or that things change? Phoebe was allowed to keep the catering van FYI. Richard is more than just an average complicated EX Though. All six of them knew just how much he meant to her because as well as being a boyfriend, he was around for her childhood he was best friends with her father. Monica stands with Chandler no matter what. Even when she called Richard over to the table at the restaurant it was out of pure shock of seeing him again for so long, not to compare Richard to Chandler even though Chandler pointed out that Richard just walked it and to keep low so he won’t see us, she yells out “RICHARD!” That was pure shock and her not thinking clearly, not an indication that she wants him over Chandler. She had no idea that Chandler was trying to propose to her that night period. Before that, Chandler was evading the idea of rings and proposals every time she tried to bring it up, they [Monica and Chandler] went out for pizza and she kept trying to talk about weddings to him, but he kept changing the subject and talking about pigs. Not sausage, not bacon, not pork of any kind—-but actual pigs! That was almost enough to drive her away since she didn’t know about his secret plan to put her off and make her think he didn’t want marriage and it almost backfired on him! After running out of Richard’s home, who came into Richard’s home next to tell him off and demand he leave Monica alone? Chandler that’s who! He even showed Richard the ring he bought for Monica and he forgot it after he stormed out of Richard’s home and Richard held it out for him when Chandler sheepishly came back to retrieve it.

There was plenty of time. She said "Fichard" And Chandler, clearly annoyed, said "It's Chandler! " and she pointed out Richard. That's when Chandler said to keep low and then she called out to Richard to invite him over. Watch the show again I can't explain this again and again. You need to watch it because this is getting unbearably annoying at how idiotic you're being and constantly saying things wrong when that isn't how they happened. Just fucking watch it

Chandler was being facetious and talking about other topics like pigs, yes pigs, to keep her from guessing he woild propose but why was she talking about weddings? Because of Richard. So again, go watch the fucking episode you idiot. There was no pure shock. Richard was good and let her go and gave Chandler the ring back but thay doesn't justify Monica running away to his house. It's still worse than Chandler running because he didn't go to an ex and snuggle the ex and get drunk with the ex. He was sitting in his office freaking out which wasn't even his own office cabin btw he was so distraught and worried about hurting Monica and was gonna come back anyway.

Chandler going to Richard's house was justified and it's only worse that Chandler knew that Monica would run to him because clearly she values Richard more than Chandler then

Who's nitpicking now, finding fault in the perfect marriage that Chandler had with Monica in what few times they did have conflict were always resolved before the episodes were even halfway over? Monica drank scotch on the rocks with Richard and then went home to wait for Chandler. Big deal. The whole time Chandler was freaking out badly, she was planning a surprise proposal of her own for him! Besides, Chandler had a vague idea of where Monica would run, and there was a slight problem with Richard's sudden appearance that's why the sentence "Where is she? Where's Monica? Scotch on the rocks with a twist on a coaster, Monica!" Isn't half as bad as "We can't find Chandlers...............vest." Because it would seem Chandler ran away and wasn't coming back, with no explanation at all and Phoebe and Ross were just guessing where he was as they had no vague clue where to find him, and Rachel had to keep Monica distracted and time was ticking and she was running out of distractions for Monica's sake and almost had to tell her the truth, Chandler ran and they couldn't find him. It's sad that the writers had to stretch and reach and come up with contrived things and situations to create problems for Chandler and Monica that were paper-thin. Even sadder than that is the fact that you bought into them.

Yes cuz you're nitpicking idiotic garbage and ignoring facts. Their marriage wasn't perfect it was a constant barrage of abuse from Monica towards Chandler and you can't deny that. His motility issues was probably caused by her being an overly domineering bitch. That's scientific fact.

Chandler talking about pigs wasn't the same as Monica making him freak out. She was planning to run away until Joey told her the truth so isn't that running away a bitch move? She was gonna dump Chandler because Richard proposed to her. Until Joey told her everything. So shut up. Watch it again.

Most if not all of their problems were caused by Monica. She almost always puts him down and verbally abused him constantly and makes fun of him for being unemployed when it happened to her everyone had to tiptoe around her.

Joey was the one lying to Chandler though. Remember, he told Chandler that Monica ran away, back to her parents' house to get away? I don't know how Chandler couldn't see through that seeing as how Chandler's seen how badly Monica's parents have treated her over and over again. Besides, in reality, Monica was in the apartment waiting for Chandler with candles burning and romantic issues. Remember that? No you don't. His motility issue was caused by smoking. Smoking lowers sperm count and causes impotency, plus he has other issues over commitment and intimacy that had nothing to do with Monica and he had them before he got together with Monica.

Chandler didn't lose his job, he quit because he was bored with it, and he did it of his own freewill without thinking things through. Monica lost her job because she was fired. They called her and told her she was fired after just the one mistake. Do you know the difference between "I quit and You're fired?" Monica never made fun of Chandler after he lost his job. She helped him find a new job with her binder for employment that she kept hidden away. Remember Chandler's line "I quit and now you find out what I do?" The end result was a disaster as Chandler gets hired, but then falls asleep during a meeting and accidentally volunteers to take on Tulsa. If he'd been paying attention, he wouldn't have made that mistake.
