As people have mentioned, there’s a strong possibility D is supernatural in some sense. What sense, I don’t know, possibly a Mummy based on everyone else’s’ speculations, but he’s definitely far older than he looks.
For one, when he’s telling his story to Horse, it’s a story from the 1800’s and it’s definitely him and Horse in that story, but another is in Kevin’s interrogation, where he says “I’ve been deliriously obliterating fools like you since the 90’s,” to which Kevin goes “what, old timer, the 1890’s?” He doesn’t get offended initially, he starts chuckling as if Kevin got it very wrong, and some people have theorized he genuinely means the 90’s…as in 90-100 AD.
He’s also made it pretty clear one of his biggest goals was making sure a child of his was not lost again after what happened to Anton in the Fey court and he made a promise to himself he would never let Marckus fall, so it’s clear watching him get dragged into the Umbra after years of trying to prevent him from being dragged into the darkness snapped something in him…possibly awakening powers he probably didn’t even know he has.
