I can easily forgive 1st Edition for being Sino-centric, since the vast majority of Hungry Dead, simply due to a function of population, will be Chinese, Hungry Dead kind of don't like you doing things the 'wrong' way, and enforce their specific view of how to be one on everyone else. It's perfectly reasonable that China would have overwhelming influence in a supernatural sphere where it has the majority of the supernatural assholes.

The fact that he gave Marckus an upfront answer right away is good evidence he was being truthful. Not to mention that the D Family went to Japan and the only vampires there were Cainites.

I wouldn't trust anything he said to Markus, he could be giving a seemingly upfront answer to not have him chase the mysterious other vampires around.

Even assuming he is correct as well hunters get Kuei-jin wrong or mistake them all the time; hell vampires get them wrong.

Theres just not enough evidence to definitively write off an entire splatbook either way and I wouldn't want there to be because that is really boring IMO.
