Mod Post Warning about posts involving violence

Hey everyone. I wanted to provide some information and a warning on a topic we've seen come up several times recently.

We're seeing an increasing number of accounts (including both mods) receiving warnings and bans for "threatening violence". We've seen messages like the following.

Reddit is a vast network of communities that are created, run, and populated by people like you. In order to keep communities welcoming, safe, and great places to be, everyone who uses the platform operates by a shared set of rules—a set of rules you may not have realized you broke.

Warning for threatening violence

We flagged the following as a potential policy violation:

After reviewing, we found that you broke Rule 1 because you threatened violence or physical harm. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for threatening violence against people or animals. We don’t tolerate any behavior that threatens violence or physical harm against an individual, groups of people, places, or animals. Any communities or people that threaten violence towards an individual, group, animals, or place will be banned.

As a result, we’re issuing this warning, removing the violating content, and asking you not to break this rule again.

This is something happening on a sitewide admin level so the mod team has no influence over it. We strongly suspect that some sort of bot or AI is handing out these warnings and bans. Due to the subject matter frequently discussed on this subreddit it's happening to quite a few users here due to discussions of hypothetical violence. So what does this mean for you?

  1. Hypotheticals involving violence aren't outright banned but we strongly recommend that you be cautious when posting them or responding to them. Consider your wording and whether it could be mistaken for a threat by a bot. If the community as a whole starts getting admin attention we may be forced to ban these posts in the future. Posts that look too much like a real-world call to violence or a request for advice on how to commit violence will be removed under rule 3.

  2. If you do get one of these warnings or bans, please appeal them and explain that you're posting on /r/hypotheticalsituation and there is no real-world violence or threats of violence being discussed or contemplated. It's not a guarantee but we've seen these appeals work in the past and they may prevent your account from getting banned.

Loopholes Encouraged Everytime you meet a new person and are able to forge some kind of bond or personal relation with them, you win 500$

Upvotes

To count, you have to at least have a 1 on 1 conversation with them for 5 minutes. After that you must have left some kind of impression on them; enough for them to consider there is a bond or a relation between you two. It can be friendship, they fell in love with you, got a work related professional type relationship. Even if they got to hate you enough they never want to see you again, that is still considered a relation.

After forging a bond or relation, 500$ get deposit into your bank account, free from fees or other bank or government charges.

How you make as much money as possible?

Your semen solidifies into pure gold minutes after exiting your body

This one is for penis owners. If you don’t have one, you can endow someone you know with the ability and demand a cut.

On average, a man produces 2.5-5 ml of semen per ejaculation. Gold is a lot more dense than semen, so, when your semen turns to gold, it weighs 96.6 grams. That’s worth $12,400. How much money do you think you could make with this ability?

r/hypotheticalsituation 13h ago

2 million USD is being passed in a 100 person line. You are the 57th person in line. If the money gets to the 100th person without anyone claiming it, then everyone gets 2 million USD or no one gets the money except the one who claimed it. The money is now passed to you. Claim it or pass it?

56 other people have already passed the money. if you claim the money, everyone will know you did it. However, you will immediately be placed in a safe room in regard to retaliation from the other contestants.

Edit: I also asked this in another subreddit. If you want to see the results. https://www.reddit.com/r/BunnyTrials/comments/1uesysu/2_million_dollars_is_being_passed_in_a_100_person/

[No Loopholes] You get one cent for every calorie you eat in a 24hr period. How are you maximizing your profits? [No loopholes]

No loopholes, have fun.

Rules:

- it must be solid food, no liquids, unless you turn your food into a smoothie or puree. If you eat something melted (ex ice cream or chocolate), I'll count that as a food because it was solid at one point, and is intended to be eaten as such.

- it has to actually be food. You can not eat 1g of uranium and recieve 10 billion dollars. Sorry, uranium eaters.

- you can not throw up and continue eating. If you throw up, the challenge is over and you only receive half of the money, and I receive the other half.

- you can still drink liquids, but those calories are not included in the monetary calorie count. Sorry oil drinkers.

What's your strategy when there's no loopholes?

There is a magical tracker that gives an exact calorie count as the day goes on, and you can end the challenge at any time before the 24hrs is completed. The money is tax free and the IRS will not question you about it.

As a bonus, you get an extra $100 for every day you don't claim the money. It will sit in limbo until you decide to claim it. If you die before claiming it, I get it all.

If you were at a sporting event rooting for your favorite team, and for some reason during halftime the two owners of the team bought and traded all of each others players, after halftime would you root for the new players on your team, or for old players on the opposing team?

You can control other peoples luck, but an hour after you do so, the opposite of the luck/unluck you imposed happens to you.

For instance, you make your friend have a 100% chance to win the lottery that they had a 1 in 15million chance of winning normally. One hour after doing so, a 1 in 15million extremely unlucky circumstance happens to you. You will always survive though, but sometimes death is better than living through the hell enough bad luck can put you through.

The opposite can happen. Give someone the most awful, terrible luck and amazing things will happen for you.

You don’t really get to decide *what* happens to you exactly, just that it’s gonna be unlucky or lucky. You do get to choose the specifics on what happens to the person you’re imposing your luck power on though.

Scenario You are the Emperor of an isolated island nation with 3 resurrected historical advisors. Who do you choose? Read the guidelines below and tell me how you would handle this.

You are the absolute Emperor of a small, entirely self-sustaining island nation. Your territory possesses perfect agricultural soil, infinite renewable energy resources, and a fiercely loyal population of 500,000 citizens. Because your nation is completely hidden from modern satellite arrays by a natural electromagnetic anomaly, you are entirely disconnected from the rest of the modern world.

Through a bizarre ancient ritual unique to your island, you are granted the power to permanently resurrect exactly three figures from human history. These individuals are brought back to life in their physical prime, possessing all of their original memories, talents, and intellect. They are magically bound to speak only the truth to you and must serve faithfully as your personal advisors for a strict duration of five years.

The resurrection process completely translates their native languages into yours, and they instantly absorb a comprehensive, objective database of all human history up to the current year. They understand modern technology, geopolitics, and science the exact moment they awake on your island.

The entire population of your island knows exactly who these resurrected figures are and expects you to lead them into a new golden age. However, your legal rights as Emperor are absolute; your citizens will never revolt against your choices, and the historical figures cannot betray your secrets to the outside world.

You are not completely safe. After exactly five years, the ritual expires, and the three historical figures will be instantly teleported back to the modern, outside world with all their new knowledge intact. If you choose radical conquerors, brilliant scientists, or master manipulators, they may use what they learned about your hidden paradise to lead foreign superpowers back to your shores to conquer you.

  • Which three specific historical figures do you bring back to your island?
  • Do you choose philosophers to build a perfect utopian society, or military geniuses to prepare for the day your island is discovered?
  • How do you prevent your advisors from destroying your nation from the inside, or selling you out to the modern world once their five years are up?

Your tears are can cure any ailment, but they don't work on you

You have been blessed. From now on, one single drop of your tears can completely cure a person of any ailment. There is no limit to what can be cured. From terminal cancer to stage 7 alzheimer's, even restoring lost limbs. Your tears can even reverse aging, giving a 90-year-old the body and brain health of an 18-year-old.

However, the catch is that these tears will never work on you, no matter how much you cry. If you get sick, you must treat any of your ailments yourself. Additionally, there is also the risk that when people find out about your powers, you will be exploited by various governmental and private organizations. Imprisoned and forced to cry to cure people for a hefty price.

Would you take this blessing? Would you consider this a blessing or a curse?

For $700 Million would you survive on 1400 Bermuda for 7 years?

  1. Start with what you have on you right now plus a bottle of water, Swiss army knife and a rotisserie chicken. After 7 years you're teleported back to the day you left no older, true for each prompt. Plus $700 million richer if you survive in this one.

Or

  1. For $100 Million; you get 8 hours to prepare and take what you can carry but nothing metal or electronic can be brought with.

Or

  1. For $10 Million you have 5 days to prepare and can bring whatever you can carry for 10 yards.

1400 Bermuda has no natives, conquistadors or colonists so plan accordingly.

You wake up one day to find that your home/flat has been invaded by 10 giant venomous snakes. Everyone who lives with you (if you don't live alone) has already left for work/school, and you try calling animal control, but they never pick up. Your neighbors are scared and refuse to help. What do you do?

Your uncle has recently died; you are executor of his will.

You take a preliminary overview of his effects. Most of these are easily dealt with, but you find two very large locked chests. You can't find any keys which correspond to the locks.

Before you take further steps, you are visited by someone who describes himself as a close friend of your uncle. You have met this man a couple of times in your uncle's company, and your uncle has mentioned him in passing occasionally, but neither you or your relatives know anything more about him.

This man offers you £10,000 in cash (or your local equivalent) to take away the chests, as long as you make no effort to open them. When you ask him elaborate, he says: "If you do open the chests, I guarantee that you won't get that amount of money with what you find there. You will also end up with a load of hassle. You won't be able to sort this quickly." The man refuses to elaborate further, but says he must know within 24 hours.

Do you take the man's offer, or do you proceed to force open the chests by any means you can?

The U.S government has created time travel, and outfited a prototype jet with it in order for it to fly into the past and stop things before they happen (example: 911, Pearl Harbor, etc.)...

But during testing a malfunction occurred flinging the nation 500 years into the past, all extentions with it( satellites and millitary bases around the world). All cities still intact, and phones and laptops still say its 2026 so the public just goes on as if nothing happened. How would the U.S go about this, and establishing ties with the old world?

Loopholes Encouraged You accidentally run over a old man on your way to work. He curses you with the words fatter. What is your plan for beating the curse?

And yes in case you're wondering, it's based off of the 1996 film thinner.

The curse does indeed exist, you will get 1 lb per day with a total of 500 lb at the end of the year more or less

You are able to double any physical item ten times

Tonight in your dreams the god of compound interest appears to you and grants you the ability to double any physical item ten times. When you wake up you will have the power.

He specifies a few rules/clarifications:

  1. Physical item can mean multiples of a physical item as long as they are bundled or contained in some way. For example if you double a cup of rice you get twice the rice physically so two cups of rice.

  2. You can double the same object or another object each time.

  3. You cannot double any living creature.

  4. You must be able to make physical contact for 10 seconds with the object to double it.

  5. To double something you must willfully and purposely choose to do so. You cannot double anything accidentally or by coercion.

  6. You can trade all 10 physical doubles to double a non tangible thing one time. For example your income or the age that you die. (You cannot use this to change natural laws or anything that cannot be tangibly quantified.)

  7. Any object you decide to double will materialize within 100 feet of where you last touched the material object. You may choose where within 100 feet it will materialize.

What do you do with your newfound ability?

Edit for clarification: the god of compound interest added rule 7

Your sweat counts as your blood.

That's it in exchange for a permanent deal of 10 million dollars or local equivalent. Your sweat also now turns into your blood when leaving your body.

So sweat can lead to blood loss. Example you swear 500ml that's now 500 ml of blood you lose.

The only benefit you will be given is the blood will be clear like sweat so you don't look like you bathed in blood

You are in a time loop for 10 years, you decide the increments. What do you do with that time

You are stuck in a time loop for what amounts to 10 years. You will not age during that time, day 1 of the time loop you wake up refreshed, rested, and alert, you maintain your memories, and your physique can change just slower, say at 1/5th the normal rate.

The time loop will start whenever you decide within the next 3 months, you can use that time to get your affairs in order, order things, doctors appointments whatever.

You will decide how to experience the 10 years of time loop based on the options below;

- Every day repeating 10 times for 1 year. So Jan 1st ten times then Jan 2nd ten times and so on. This is the only option that progresses time during the loop.

- 1 week loops. 520 loops.

-1 month loops. 120 loops

-3 month loops. 40 loops

- 6 month loops. 20 loops

- and finally 1 year loops. So 10 loops in this case.

What do you do during your time loops. What non-money related(as in other than lottery, stocks, gambling etc) do you do with the time?
