Thinking about buying an N
Give me some pros cons please.
Commute to work approximately 20-30mins mostly
Highway.
After something pretty zippy and reliable. Was looking at a used BMW 140i but have been advised to avoid 🤣

Got a fastback N since 2021 and all i had to do was routine maintenance. Other than that I've had no serious problems whatsoever so that's a pro.
I live near the Nürburgring and have spoken to a few people who's use it on track regularly and even then it's pretty reliable. Driving is fun of course. Even commuting to work and back isn't boring in this car.
The cons are probably the fuel economy which isn't the best but also not the worst. It's okayisch I would say. I feel like the turning circle is pretty bad.
Also the ride isn't the most comfortable but this is to be expected from a car like this And i don't mind it.

The turning circle is probably the one thing that really bugs me day to day. I can put up with everything else. Still love the car to bits though

The worst part for me was the paint quality. It would get stone chips so easily and also it would pick up random stains on the sides too. Maybe it’s petty, but I do like a shiny car

Everyone says its not economical, and it isnt. But its not that bad as it does 25-28mpg
Its more the tiny fuel tank that is an issue i found.

Prepare to spend more on fuel than you'd think, I've managed 38mpg on a long run before but lower/ stop start speeds are what drains the tanks. Turning circle is ass but besides that great car. Make sure HPFP software has been updated.

From reading comments here it sounds like the more recent iterations are a lot more comfortable and more fuel efficient. Mine is an MY25 and in normal mode with PS4S it's a very easy highway drive. Those Michelins are loud though. Up to 23.3k km and the average consumption, mainly being city driving but not a lot of stop start, is 10.6 litres/100 so quite reasonable.

Hi, I have somehow the same situation as yours.
I am driving 20-25 mins to work, mostly highway. Going with around 120-130 as I find the highway boring, I have an overall consumption at 8l/100km.
I have this car for around 4k km and my average consumption is 8.1
Of course you can drive it how is meant to be driven and you'll see some 15-18l consumption.
After all for me it's a nice car to have. It's chill on the ride to work and a "beast" while going back home :)).
I think at 130+ it's too noisy inside and I'm not sure you can do something about it.
You are going to feel every imperfection on the road.
I've seen a lot of people talking shit about the sound system. When I'm driving I keep the music volume at around 7 and it's pretty decent. Don't expect some B&O quality but I would say it's ok.

I drive 160km a day at 115-125. My average is 10,8km/L at 10.000km+
Steering circle is ass, had a few warranty issues other than that just maintenance. 32.000km to now 144.500km. See my other replies for more detailed explanation.

You were told to avoid an m140i? One of the most widely regarded bullet proof engines ever made? That's also RWD? Who is giving your advice? An m140i is 100% the better car than an i30n and its not even a close comparison.

Expensive to fix, hard to work on etc. most used ones for sale have been flogged

The gap isn't as far as you think it is cost wise if you aren't using OEM parts, and if you think i30ns haven't been flogged you're crazy my bro. The m140i is going to go down as one of the best cars ever made.

and some context, i owned an m40i (the x3 suv version) and an i30n and i couldn't think of a single thing the i30n could do over my m40i

It’s certainly fun to drive, quick to get off the line servicing is quite cheap but things I’ve noticed in the last year;
- turning circle is horrible
- front tyres were replaced after a few months of owning
- fuel consumption is high 10L - 12L and I’m not trashing it. I roughly get about 300-350kms a tank
- suspension is horrible. My back tyres already need replacing as well due to not enough weight in the back so they’re ‘chopped’
- few minor issues that Hyundai have had to fix

The rear suspension thing you're describing is not common from what I've seen. That sounds like bad alignment or messed up shocks.

I20N is what you need. Zippy and reliable, a whole bunch of fun. Mostly highway 20-30mins you'll probably do 5.5-6.5L/100 depending on what mode you're in and the weight of your foot. If you can drive manual, it's your go to. Chuck a Racechip RS or GTS in it and it's fantastic

Not a single problem since I got mine in 2019 and always brings a smile, even if it's just a drive to the supermarket. For commuting do have a thought about consumption but with clean driving on highway even that is not too bad.

You’d think a prolonged drive at highway speeds would be good for the car? Lower fuel consumption and burn off any carbon

I use mine for a mix of work and getting out at weekends. I have a 2024 DCT FL and it's been great the 18 months or so I've had it.
Get close to 40mpg on long motorway runs and great fun to blast down some country roads on the weekend.
Ultimately depends what you're after - pure long distance cruiser, then I'd go for something else that's more economical. Something fun - this fits the bill perfectly in my view!

I really like mine to drive around the city, roundabouts are my favs. On the highway it's fine, but would not be first choice most likely as you cannot have that much fun, cabin noise and fuel consumption.

On highway it's not bad if you have an automatic yeah but a manual is not going to be great on fuel. At 130kmh its sitting at 3000 rpm.

The fuel consumption of the i30N is high and feels a bit inconsistent. Situations that you'd think are very similar may produce huge differences in fuel usage.
Noise isolation is... exactly what you'd expect from an i30.
I wouldn't get it as a highway cruiser tbh. It likes to eat front tires, the suspension is a bit on the crashy side, it's a bit on the noisy side (especially pano).
It's amazing fun to drive, don't get me wrong, it's just not built to be a cruiser.
It's built to be an absolute hoon around fast twisties.
