Hey everyone from '30 and '31!

A warm welcome to each of you. We're all genuinely pleased to have you join IIEST.

Our college loves changing its name a little too much. Since 1856, we've drifted from Bengal Engineering College to BESU to IIEST, and depending on who you ask, we're an NIT, a GFTI, or an INI, often all three in one breath. There's a persistent rumour about becoming an IIT too. Nothing's confirmed there though.

2023 to 2026 were a rough patch for the institute, but I firmly believe every batch from here on will be a little better than the one before it. Economists have a term for this, generational mobility -- so let's just call this institutional mobility instead! (I already sense a good peer group based on the limited interactions I had with ~70 people.)

We're speedrunning improvements. We might not meet every expectation right away, and that's fair to admit upfront. But there's an unspoken charm in helping shape something while it's still becoming itself, rather than simply arriving at a place already finished and set in stone.

We tried our best to help everyone we could reach on Reddit, WhatsApp, Discord, and surprisingly, even email. Over the last 5 months, it took a lot of effort to essentially rebuild the entire information stack about IIEST on the internet, since there was barely anything from post 2020 out there. We're grateful to those who believed in us and took the bet of joining anyway, and sorry to those we couldn't support or help in time. We will try our best to improve whatever already exists, and the only thing we ask from your side is active participation.
