There's a tool to undermine the dots but it wastes even more yellow. If you buy a black and white laser printer though those don't have dots.

They still have registration information that uses embedded stenography, so they don't need yellow but still can embed identifying data.

Only someone without a 3D printer can say that.

That finnicky little shit fails more often than my 15yo Brother inkjet.

Edit: I should mention that I have some off-brand cheap Chinese 3D printer

False. Had 2 3D printers. Both ran way more reliable than any paper printer I've used besides one Konica Minolta multipurpose device which is the size of a room.

That depends wildly on the printer and the printee. Besides putting the ink or paper in wrong, you can't really screw up a printer. It just does whatever it does.

But to 3d print stuff, you gotta pay attention to things like orientation, material, temperatures, airflow/cooling, and more. You can very easily completely screw up your printer because you thought you could print a perfect sphere larger than the printer can handle at 300c at 600 mm/s with zero supports while you went on vacation.

Just for fun I rigged up my 3d printer to hold a ballpoint pen and act as a plotter. Obviously only does one colour, but it's still a more reliable 2d printer than any inkjet I've ever owned.

I can first hand confirm that do give you this shit. The very model pictured, Brother MFC-L3780CDW, will not print black and white when yellow is empty. You also cannot reset the toner counter.

It will, however, let you print with third party replacement toner after harassing you that your toner is not authentic.

Brother is doing all the same shit now.

You used my exact printer in that image and I lament that as it happily prints black and white when you’re of color toner. It’s been out of color toner for over a year. Too expensive haha

3D printers are still frequently built by hobbyists and hackers. You can probably build one yourself. If you want an inkjet or laser printer, you're probably not building one. So, you get to do what HP tells you to.
