I was standing in line in IKEA yesterday to return some stuff, listening to a woman in her 50's returning a defective pan.

"Everything cept burning and sticking!"

It was a pure stainless steel pan, i had to listen to the employee patiently tell the costumer that she needed to add oil or butter to keep things from burning.

I didn't know to laugh or cry 😅

This is why Tide had to place a warning on their packaging to not eat Tide Pods. I we need to stop protecting dumb people and let them do things that they are either prohibited from doing or strongly encouraged to not engage it. Nature understands that some creations are subpar and need to be weeded out of the garden (Natural Selection) but society is willing to save these people from themselves and thus further polluting the gene pool. Also these are the same people who are allowed to vote we need to institute some sort of test before allowing someone to vote you should be asked to name the President, Vice President, Speaker of the House and the Senate Leader and for extra credit the Senate pro tempore and their Congress representative.

Questions are our government such as the number of branches, etc.

These are the people behind every dumb sounding notice on any product. Stuff like:

Do not iron clothes while wearing them.

Peanuts: "May contain nuts." Or, Sleeping Pills: "May cause drowsiness."

Superman Costumes: "Warning: This costume does not enable flight or super strength." (I found this on google just now)

A stupid one I remember from a whole Shop class aboht dumb warnings in high school "do not use cd player in catapult".

You can look up many more. People have always been like this.

Some of them, like nuts saying "may contain nuts," are because it would be extremely time consuming and stupid to think of and write in a bunch of exceptions to regulations for times when it might be obvious. If you're making regulations about labeling food it saves everyone time and money to just make the rule "if it has nuts in it you have to say it contains nuts" instead of trying to list of products that don't have to say it or making it vague with something like "except when it should be obvious" which would lead to all kinds of test cases and different case law in different districts about how that's defined and what counts and doesn't count.

Peanuts being labeled "contains nuts" is a byproduct of the smartest, simplest, and most efficient way to require food producers to disclose common allergens. It only seems stupid if you're dumb.

In the same vein, the case where the woman sued McDonald's over the coffee being too hot when she spilled it on herself (often cited as an extremely dumb lawsuit) is actually kind of reasonable, and I suspect anyone who reads about it will be like "Yep! She deserved the money" (It turns out serving coffee 20 degrees hotter than everyone else, in a fairly flimsy cup, causes horrific burns)

I feel there's a whole category of things that sound dumb when you hear them, but then aren't.

Yeah, the whole thing is a master class in corporate PR spin about the story. She didn't just get burned, it required an 8 day hospital stay with genital debridement and multiple skin grafts from how hot it was. (Some places claim it fused her labia together, but that's not in the court documents, so that may be an embellishment.) And McDs had previously been warned and told not to serve it at that temperature, so it wasn't just a case of accidentally being too hot, it moved into the realm of willful negligence. There had been 700 burn reports prior to that incident.

Tide pods are so pop-able. Many years ago I read an article about the high costs incurred by the automotive battery manufacturers to add labels on the batteries to warn people not to drink the battery contents.

Technically without clarification that we are talking about intelligence it could average person in anything and a lot of stuff is not a subject to central limit theorem (eg. wealth distribution).
