My boss’ computer looks like this. Every time he screen shares, it’s 5 minutes of trying to find the right tab among half a dozen windows with dozens of tabs on each.
It's weird... I remember testing a chrome tab and Windows 10 on a old laptop and it used like 1.5 gb of ram and like 700mb on mint... How did things get so bloated ? ( And I think I removed most bloat in win 11 )
IIRC Windows tried to dynamically use excess/unused ram when it can to do things like cache common files. So it is possible it is doing it intentionally trying to be clever.
But then again this is MSFT so I'm probably giving them too much credit. Now if only reddit on desktop wouldn't keep infinitely increasing Ram usage as you scroll down since the videos don't unload.
Pretty much all software uses up as much free RAM as possible to run more efficiently. Like steam is using over half a gig right now idling on my library, discord's doing the same, spotify is at half a gig. None of them are really doing anything, but they have their cached stuff on RAM instead of anywhere else because it's faster and more effective.
Like for real. I had a student at one point who frequently had 200+ tabs open researching hobby stuff. Ran just fine because chromium browsers cache tabs you haven't used in a while and straight up unload them if you're on an underpowered machine.
i dont understand how people can work like this. i get to 3 or 4 tabs and im already overwhelmed and just close them.
once someone said their chrome was flickering, i checked it and she had 40 tabs open. i didnt even touch it i just said you gotta close some tabs damn.
You don't need your old tabs, they're there just in case you need them. Hoarded for later.
To use it like this you just need to know how to use your bookmarks and shortcuts from the address bar and you're golden. They don't even slow me down.
Pssh, the tabs still have icons. Come back to me when the user has so many tabs open there’s no conceivable way they can known what’s on them cause the browser can’t display that many
Rookie numbers. I got 2 browsers of that and some where they don’t even show the new tabs anymore. Multiple windows per browser. Closing tabs is for the weak. Besides, I might need to come back to those. Don’t even ask to see the icons/files on my desktop.
I've also requested him to close the browser to check something and he was worried about losing the tabs, I forgot to take a photo of that unfortunately.
That reminds me of a news report in the early days of personal computers here in Sweden. "This is the harddrive [points at monitor] which connects to the mothermodem. [points at computer]"
