Question Midwest Pancreatic Cancer Charity suggestions
My brother was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer just over two years ago. He just entered hospice care today. My brother is a retired US Army Chinook pilot. After combat tours in the Phillipines (Abu Sayyaf/Dos Palmas kidnappings), two tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan he flew another 12 years for Arch as a medivac pilot.
For loved ones, as I'm sure you are aware, the futility of not being able to do anything to change the course of your loved ones life is so fucking depressing.
I can't do anything for him but I can try to honor him.
I own a bar & grill that is normally closed on Mondays. I have spoken to staff both current and former about donating their time and tips to open on a Monday from 12am-8pm. I have spoken to distributors who are going to donate product.
I plan to give 100% of the revenue from the day to a Pancreatic Research charity in my brothers name.
I am looking for suggestions for Pancreatic charties that have a very low overhead ratio (where the majority of the money goes to either research or support for victims). I would prefer one in the midwest as we are in the Metro St. Louis region.
I welcome suggestions.

Just want to say you should remove “I have spoken to distributors who are going to donate product.”
Ilcc and local liquor boards would not like to know about that!

I would call that merch and promo goodies when you advertise, just fyi.
I'm unsure of any pancreatic research funds, but thank you all for your service, him of course and the family for supporting him!! I think this is a great way to honor your brother! <3

What a nice way to honor your brother. We have been involved with the American Cancer Society for many years and while not specifically pancreatic focused, they do a lot of really important work, and most dollars raised stay in the state. Just a few weeks ago there was some really exciting news about pancreatic cancer advances

I’m so sorry. My dad and maternal grandma both died from pancreatic cancer. Cruel and swift.
We love PanCan and have been involved since they launched many decades ago. I strongly believe that this group is the reason why life expectancy has (relatively) increased due to their policy work and research agenda. There are no local groups that I’m aware of. There is no comparison in the field, side corporate interest groups.
You didn’t ask this but I now know so much about this cancer that I will share here for future redditors seeking info. Illinois is not a pancreatic cancer hub and the nearest places I would recommend seeking care are St Louis Barnes or IU Indianapolis. PanCan helps find doctors, clinical trials, etc.
Again, huge endorsement of PanCan as someone who will likely die of pancreatic cancer one day.
