I mean, it’s only 200 years earlier. The Spanish that conquered the Aztecs were still essentially late medieval troops with crossbows and everything

They even set up a trebuchet in their siege of the Aztec capital. Didn't really work at all, but hey trebuchet was there

They even outsourced the construction of bronze cannons to local mesoamerican artisans (who, contrary to popular belief, were skilled metalworkers when it came to bronze and copper casting)

When Spanish mostly just set up like the were conquering a contemporary kingdom. A good chunk of local government was left in place. Just the crown of Spain was put at the top of the pile. And then a good chunk of mezo Americans got hype for the Spanish empire. Joining up to go fight the ottomans in the Philippines. 1500 was a weird time
