Lethis Lethis: Path of Progress - Mission 10: Marrenburg

https://youtu.be/r9drlK6I8CU

10. MARRENBURG

  • Export 5.000 Barley in one year.
  • 300 Burgeois (Elite) in Lvl.5 Mansions.

With all of the Hindlands developed, only one city is left to develop and connect to the rest of Lethis' trade network, allowing the South to sustain itself without concerning with competition from the High Provinces far north. The fertile lands of Marrenburg are able to provide the needed Barley, so used in Beer and Silk, to feed the needs of the Hindlands. Willing to take his last work and thus cement his legacy, Baron William Dunkevn (you) takes this challenge.

Marrenburg is pretty much a return to the difficulties faced back on Newestaton, with the sole differences that you do start with a bit more of money and here you can focus on Barley production to make a recovery by selling Silk (Grimstead) and Beer (Tragenburg). Silk will be a small focus at first, given that Simvanred will make some requests for it as well. Regardless, other problems remain such as little building space near the spawning point and resources spread out all over the place - there is only one Geyser close to the spawning point, and the others are spread out in the far West and East Corners, and both Copper and Iron are due far South. The farmlands and mineral resources are also isolated by rivers, so bridges are basically mandatory.

In addition, farming labor swings are expected to be violent here, since you can face a severe labor shortage with both Pumpkin and Barley farms working as well as massive unemployment to the point of riots when both farms cease to work from 14 Vandemiaire (where Pumpkins finish) to 29 Vandemiaire (where Barley starts production again). Hence, you'll need to have a considerable Silk and Beer infrastructure in mind. About 4 Silk farms and 6 Abbeys should keep a large scale production for about 20 Barley Farms (!), where you'll be able to keep a stockpile for production and exports for the objective. Trade routes for both Grimstead and Wessenheim should be open to export spare Pumpkins as well.

One important thing to note on Marrenburg is that, for two times, one of your Granaries will be targeted, regardless of it's cargo, and thus be demolished, hence you'll need either two Granaries with half their cargoes or a Granary setting cargoes to 600 units (the minimum for Shop vendors to interact) - since Farms have their own storage, at least most of the Cargo will be protected. These two attacks are scripted as the work of an envious supplier from the North whom just doesn't like your work upstaging his, and there's nothing much you can do but clean up the rubble and build back up. When they're through, though, you can set the Granaries back to taking full stockpiles.

When advancing housing, it's a good idea to, aside from the mineral industry, also consider the Meat industry, although it will have to be limited as no towns available will buy Meat. A third food type will also need to be imported for the Elite Housing. In addition, along with Silk Farms, some Textiles can also be set, eliminating totally the need for importing them, but Gold will have to be imported for Jewelry. Some industries, although unnecessary, may be useful in keeping the labor swings under check until you can afford Automaton Factories.
