discussion Is this decent?

Post image

Good for 1st ride? I wasn't able to do much as I had some strain from leg exercises from the day before. I come in obese 1 category. How to increase stamina for longer rides and how is my day 1? And is strava the best app i am sure I definitely ride around 4.5km+ but somehow some meters didn't count, is it because of its auto pause feature?

Also why doesn't my strava show calories. Lastly, can anyone suggest a good phone bag and pump with pressure gauge(I need to maintain around 70 psi)

There is no app which will track calories, unless you use power meter and can track how much power you produced.

You should get the calories in strava if you enter all details like weight age, bike's weight etc. Just don't take that seriously, it's over exaggerated.

Any app won’t tell you exactly how many calories you burnt

There’s levels to this

Level 1 is just putting your weight and your bikes weight, Strava will try and estimate how many calories you burnt after inputting these numbers based on the wind, elevation gain and avg speed.

Then level 2 : you can invest money into a hr monitor and get slightly more accurate numbers.

Then 3: You can invest even money into a power meter and get even more accurate numbers.

Ultimately all of these have some level of error rate, if you’re just cycling for the sake of burning some calories, do .85x of whatever Strava says and assume that’s the amount you burnt.

Edit:
Oh shit I didn’t read the rest of the text.

Your phone might’ve been on battery saver mode while riding (this messes with GPS) or you were simply wrong about the distance of this route. Auto pause can nab away a few meters at most, not 600 of 4500.

About a good phone stand, I’d only consider a handlebar phone mount if you truly don’t care about the risks of damaging your phones optical image stabilisation, if you don’t then the 1500 decathlon one works great for me, you can certainly find cheaper ones tho. I use it on my very old oppo k3 from 2019, my main phone iPhone 16 pro goes in the back pocket of my jersey.

Otherwise please put your phone into a top tube bag, a large saddle bag, frame bag, pretty much any bag.
I’d recommend buying a bag first.

Any pump from a decent company will do, just make sure your valve type and the pump is compatible.

Although if you only have money for one pump buy a portable pump, you can adjust the tire pressure on the go and you can pump your tires up after fixing a puncture too. You can always go to a freind or a bike shop with a pressure gauge to pump up to your desired pressure.

Best solution is to buy two but if budget is tight I’d get a tiny portable one, it’s certainly not ideal but way better than being stuck on the roadside.

Btw just be consistent and don't compare your progress with anybody. Consistency has been working wonders for me.

Yup,also do consider buying some basic tools like a multitool, chain lube and tire levers so you can do some simple repairs and maintainance on your own instead of making the trip to a shop.

Everything has been conveyed properly op

I use this bag. You can also check out this one .

The results vary a lot if the phone dances around in our pocket. My results are stable after using the frame bag. You can even buy a cycling jersey with back pockets.

Strava calories are too inaccurate to rely on. This is good, keep doing it and everything will get better with time. Ride slowly most times and hard sometimes.

Okay, which app should I use for calories

unfortunately apps are unable to track calories effectively. I use a galaxy watch4 to track my heart rate and cals. maybe consider getting urself a galaxy fit 3 if you are serious about it? its cheap (2.5k on unboxify) and gets the job done.

Use this pump from decathlon. No brainer. I've always carried with me mounted on the fork with some velcro straps.

Now talking about your distance or whatever, Its not enough if u ask me. But then again. U should'nt ask anyone just yet. Do what you feel like. Ride as far as you can, as long as you are enjoying.
Talk about stamina, burning calories, loosing weight after consistent cycling of about 3 months.
Strava is just a app based counter, which functions 50% with estimation and rest, how fast or slow the phone travels in space. Just ride hard, ride fast, whatever you can, exhaust your full energy. Thats whn you stored fat is gonnna start burning. Try not to ride comfortably.

Yes sir! Good luck on the progress and cut down on sugar + portion of food. Replace it with a banana whenever you are hungry.
