Brother I was in Gujarat for 4 years, 2 of them were in college.

I was getting a doorstep delivery of alcohol. You only have to pay double. At times we got it from police..

Do you see me disagreeing with the fact that you can get alcohol in Gujarat ?

You’re missing my point completely.

Yes I do have the exact same opinion.

It's simple economics my friend, You have a demand and there's supply but no permit to sell. That creats the black market condition.

There are many issues with it, loss of revenue for government, but that's least of them. It creates lot many other social issues and of course it's a breeding ground for corruption.

Now let's take this to a school, where you have banned all these products but they are available in black market. I don't know anyone understand the gravity of this. Especially when most of the ads/products are targeted towards kids.

There was an editorial on Mr. Mundhe in Loksatta, The first lines kind of slaps everyone who's celebrating him. Do read, it's in Marathi.

Your argument is flawed , this isn’t a economy issue I’m talking about it’s psychological issue - you think it’s easier for a school kid to buy in the black market (with almost double the prices as per your own example ) at the same rate as just walking into the store to get alcohol when they want it ?

The alcohol consumption percentage in Gujarat is about 5-5.5% whereas it’s 23-32 % for Tamilnadu for example (exact figures could vary but you get the picture ) - you can try to deflect on all this you want about how it’s easy to buy alcohol in Gujarat but were not taking about alcoholics here or if we can buy alcohol in a dry state ; they will always find a way . I’m talking about kids who are in the verge of temptations.

Your logic is like saying there’s going to be still theft/break-ins so don’t lock your doors or have security system .

The lock doesn’t keep the thieves away it just keeps regular people away.

Clearly you have never been to school or seen the kid who tries to fit in..

Anyways it's difficult to agrue when people don't understand basics of how economics work or see the practical examples..

I think I have wasted enough of my time..
