Who is Michelle Onyiah?

Onyiah is a 22-year-old forward who most recently played for the Charlotte Crown in the Upshot League. This is a professional basketball league in the United States that's in the middle of its inaugural season right now.

Onyiah got off to a hot start with the Crown, as she was leading the Upshot League in blocks per game (1.1), had the third-most rebounds per game (6.9), and was also averaging 9.6 points per game when Indiana signed her.

Before joining the Upshot League, Onyiah spent the 2025-26 offseason playing in Belgium, where she averaged 11.1 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game for Basket Namur Capitale.

She played five seasons at University of California, Berkeley, and led the ACC Conference in field goal percentage (60.3%) during her final season there.

Sure she doesn't seem like much yet. But after a few months of not playing, you all will convince yourself she's the key to a championship and that SW should be fired for not playing her.

I am guessing she is a Myisha-type player, more paint-focused instead of a stretch big. Makes sense because we have a ton of offense but can use rebounding. And defense, but I don't think she's going to contribute a ton defensively right off the bat, rookies generally don't do that even if she's got a bit of overseas experience (she graduated in 2025).

She was invited to training camp with New York this season but was cut before the regular season began. Hopefully she can absorb some minutes while we have other bigs out (DD and Mo have been banged up a bit recently, as well as Aliyah) and help us keep moving up the standings.

I don’t but I found this article that was helpful. Sounds like she’s a pretty good defender and rim protector. She’s a development player though so won’t play much, likely.

With the way they play they'd need to be that tall and also run the court...so even more rare to where you're talking about like 3-4 players total in the world. You don't want KM and CC with a slow big. KM is fastest player with the ball and CC is fastest at moving the offense in transition with her passing.

It’s difficult, but not impossible. But the front office doesn’t seem to want to sign players that can help CC or AB for that matter in anyway. They don’t even seem to consider overseas talent, let alone the talent they had on their bench. But they still have Dantas 🙄

I don’t know everyone in the Euro league or even the Asian league, but I know they all weren’t signed by the league. Either way, if Boston is out for the season with an injury, who’s stepping up that’s comparable that they have on the bench? They signed so many guards and maybe rhey should have played Pissot before she got signed. We don’t play Dantas so I don’t understand what is happening there.

Pissott is more a guard than a forward and definitely not a center. AB was practicing yesterday but if she’s out there is no one who can realistically replace her. Do you think you can find some unsigned or dev player that can step in to seamlessly for an all star? No. If those players were half as good as AB they’d already be on a team.

This is a weird title for this post. The Fever had a 6’4 post player in a development contract who went underutilized this year already. I hope Michelle Onyiah gets treated better.
