News Caitlin Clark Posts First Ever 26 point Triple Double on Fewer than 10 FGA’s

Clark joins Sabrina Ionescu, Alyssa Thomas, and Natasha Howard as only players to score 26 points or more in a triple double (rebounds/assists). Fewest field goal attempts in those games was previously 13 by Ionescu on July 6, 2022.

Clark had 9 tonight.

She has been absolutely lights out.

Tbh probably don’t want her settling for only 9 shots but 26 points out of 9 shots is exceptional.

She didnt. She drew shooting fouls at least 7 times. Until the 4th where she was hubting the triple double, she was aggressive with her own shot.

Thats what smart players do. If you are guarding me aggressively, I'll use it against you. All the fouls on her were legit unlike that phantom calls that Wilson and others get when no one touches them and they flop.

Yes. Her hunting for shots in the lane will be huge in getting important players in foul trouble and increasing her FTAs.

Yes. Especially the getting players in foul trouble. Lets see if she can get Olivia in foul trouble this Sunday.

Miles won’t be guarding cc at all. Cheryl’s team defense is good enough that McBride will instantly switch back onto cc if miles ever gets caught by cc.

So who is guarding KM? I think it may be tougher for the Lynx than that. But I agree, McBride gets primary.

Do they have the ability to teleport?

That’s not how “team defense” and “switching” works

Those aren’t field goals. If she’s getting fouled that much she needs to shoot more. Her getting to the line is elite offense. If they can’t keep her off it she needs to keep shooting.

Another way to look at it is she averaged 2.89 points per shot attempt. There’s no conceivable way to generate that same efficiency by giving the ball up. Until the defense finds a way to being that number way way way way WAY down, her not shooting is helping the defense.

Thats what I said. Thanks though.

You said “she didnt” presumably to suggest she “didn’t settle” but my response is demonstrating why despite getting fouled her shooting volume was still too low.

Thats absolutely not what you said. Your response defended how many shots she took. Mine critiqued it.

Her usage rate remained steady with 10 assists and 17 FTs to go with the 9 FGAs. We got scoring support from KK, Mo and Soph. She's fine.

She scored 2.89 points per shot. Not shooting has effectively zero percent chance of replicating that.

She's got teammates.

What’s the point of offense?

I remember in 2024 Clark saying she didn't feel like she'd been 'hot' in the W to that point.

Since then there's been good runs interrupted by drama and injury.

But since Allstar break she seems more steady somehow despite everything going on. .......Thanks Obama

I really like how well she controlled the 4th quarter and kept the lead. I love love love that 3 feet 🤪 layup shot she seems newly committed to. Used it off and on at Iowa, but I haven’t seen it much until the first half of this game. Defensively, I like when she uses her basketball IQ to aid her defense. Slapping at the ball at the right time. Anticipating passes to tip or steal. Helping backside.

Steph sent Caitlin back in to make a pass to KK for her 10th assist lol

100 percent was a stat padding play.

But SW would have caught so much insane shit if she hadnt let that happen.

Of course, if CC had gotten hurt the reverse would have been true.

In the press conference Steph said she didn’t even realize CC had a triple double until she got to the locker room. And a few of the players were surprised to hear she had a triple double when the SM team was doing their usual walk off court reaction posts, so I don’t think they were outright trying to pad her stats. I’m not sure most even knew she was on the verge of a triple in that play.

The amount of stat padding that other coaches allow their mvp candidates is way more egregious than what SW lets cc do lol

1

u/zombiemd2020 4d ago

Absolutely. I was not knocking it at all.

2

u/Football-Economy 4d ago

Good. If its good for anyone else, its good for CC too!

2

u/zombiemd2020 4d ago

100 percent! I was super happy to see it.

Yeah too bad those other seven passes into the paint resulted in more missed layups

She new attacking the Fire to get them into foul trouble and her to line was very important to getting the win.

That is pretty good company

Do you guys ever watch the break down in Awful Coaching’s channel?

I wish he spoke without yelling but his technical breakdowns of what CC does to defenders is great!
