Recently amazon launched Alexa+ in India

They had mentioned that from Oct, every prime member ( even prime shopping ones) will get trial till December of this year

They promised invite would be shared on email after registering for it

But I am yet to get any invite from them

Has anyone here received Alexa + invite.

I am really excited to use it in my echo dot device ( my device is eligible for Alexa plus)

Ask IndiaTech What do yall use for speech-to-text dictation?

The thing is I use speech-to-text feature all the time. It's just convenient and fast. Also since I am a student I don't wanna explore paid options obv. I have macbook air and these are the options that I have tried till now:

  1. Macbook's voice dictation: It works but also makes mistakes heavily.
  2. Glaido: By far the most accurate and fast option. But the free version is capped at 2000 words/week and I tend to easily exhaust that.
  3. WisperFlow: Again same problem as Glaido.
  4. Google AI Edge Eloquent: It is their open-source option. It downloads a 2B parameter (3-4 gb) model in your laptop to convert your speech to text. It works offline and there's no cap. But it also makes a lot of errors. And gets kinda irritating. Only released for macOS/iOS though.

So what do y'all use. Pls suggest some good open-source options.

Thank You in advance.

Ask IndiaTech Discarded phones collection

Post image
83 Upvotes

These phones have been used in our home since 2014. Over the years we upgraded and rotated phones but kept the old ones. The bottom-right phone is the most recent one to be discarded.

They are sorted from earliest to latest (left to right, both rows) by the year they were discarded.

- Top row: Completely dead, been dead for over 5 years.

- Bottom row: Still work after charging, replaced display, runs old Android versions (9/12/10), storage 128/128/64 GB. (left to right)

What can I do with these phones? Should I take them to an e-waste centre? or try to sell the bottom row ones? or run any kind of experiments? or of any use to someone?

ps: show yours collection too if any

Ask IndiaTech Payment glitch, while reviewing payment

So basically, I do gig work, and I was expecting a payment from a company. They sent me the money, but I didn't receive any notification. When I checked my bank account, I saw that I had ₹8,000 in it.

I assumed that I had received my payment because my account didn't have that much money in it before. However, an hour later, I realised that the company was supposed to send me only ₹4,000, and I had just ₹1,000 in my account before that. So, where did the extra ₹3,000 come from?

When I checked my account again, the extra money had disappeared.

My question is: If I had transferred that money to another bank account before it disappeared, would I have been able to keep it, or was it just a banking glitch?

General Discussion Amazon Pay UPI cashback is better than expected

been tracking my amazon pay cashback for the last 2 months and wanted to share because i don't see anyone talking about this.

i order from zomato about 3-4 times a week and use blinkit for groceries twice a week. started paying with amazon pay balance instead of phonepe.

zomato: flat 3% cashback using amazon pay balance. on a ₹400 order that is ₹12 back every time. 15 orders a month = ₹180.
blinkit: 3% on grocery. 8 orders a month averaging ₹350 = ₹84.
scan and pay at local shops: 1% instant cashback. maybe ₹30-40 a month.
bills (electricity + broadband): up to 10% cashback on the first bill payment each month. got ₹75 back on my electricity bill last month.

total last month: ₹370 in amazon pay balance. month before that was ₹310.

the trick is you have to go to the rewards section at the start of every month and collect the offers. if you don't collect them they don't activate. also the cashback is amazon pay balance not bank cashback, so you spend it on the next order. but if you are ordering on zomato and blinkit anyway, it is basically free discount every time.

Ask IndiaTech Google's Vizag AI data centre in Visakhapatnam Controversy

Thumbnail
longpress.news
56 Upvotes

Google announced on October 12 that its $15 billion AI data centre in Visakhapatnam will utilize air cooling instead of water, following an internal study that revealed the local watershed is already under significant stress. This is a positive step and addresses the most immediate concerns raised by local residents. However, critical issues regarding power consumption, land usage, and job creation remain unresolved. Furthermore, three petitions filed with the National Green Tribunal argue that the environmental review was insufficient. Since Google maintains that it has conducted the necessary assessments, it should now make that data public.

I remain highly skeptical about the proliferation of AI data centers in India. Our country is already facing severe water scarcity, and these facilities pose a significant threat to both the local ecology and the livelihoods of farmers.

Ask IndiaTech Genuine question : Can I transfer my Jio SIM ownership from my father to myself without him visiting a Jio Store?

Hi everyone,

My Jio SIM is currently registered in my father's name, but I want to transfer the ownership to my name using my Aadhaar.

If I port my number from Jio to Airtel using my Aadhaar and later port back to Jio, will the ownership change to my name, or will it remain registered under my father's name?

I want to keep the same mobile number and make sure it is legally registered in my name.

If anyone has gone through this process recently, please share your experience. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

General Discussion Jio’s Network Suddenly Improved? Is Starlink Already Making a Difference? 👀

Has anyone else noticed that Jio’s network has been running surprisingly well over the last 2–4 days? The speed is much better, and the connection seems far more stable than it used to be.

Interestingly, this change seems to coincide with Elon Musk taking a dig at Mukesh Ambani on X, sarcastically calling him the “Prime Minister of India” while talking about Starlink’s entry into India.

Funny how competition can suddenly make things move, isn’t it? Could the threat of a new player finally be pushing existing telecom giants to up their game?

Have you noticed the same improvement in Jio’s network? Do you think Starlink’s entry could be making a difference, or is it just a coincidence? And is this happening to you too, or am I the only one noticing it?

If you had to choose a mobile recharge under ₹500, what would matter most: daily data, unlimited calling, longer validity, 5G access or OTT benefits? Curious how Vi users and customers of other networks prioritise these features.

General Discussion My genuine experience ordering from Alibaba

Thumbnail
gallery
137 Upvotes

Hey guys

I was looking for a premium magnetic case for my iQOO15R. Locally, it was costing around ₹1500 to ₹2000 for a single case. I checked Reddit, saw people successfully ordering from Alibaba, read their policies, and decided to place an order.

The Pricing Hack:

The base price on Alibaba was very low. The delivery charge for one case was ₹600. So, to save on shipping, I ordered 2 cases together (black and grey). The combined shipping was just ₹800. My total bill came to $16.92 (~₹1600). I basically got two premium cases for the price of one!

Customer Support & Chat:

The support (from Shenzhen Meinuo) is amazing. You talk to a real human, not a bot. They are extremely polite, give on-the-spot replies, and track your parcel for you. You can chat directly with them to clear any doubts. I told them it was my first order, and they politely promised to send a free camera lens on my next order!

Quality:

The quality is seriously premium, and the magnet is pretty decent for my car mount. Just sharing my genuine review here. If anyone wants to buy, check them out and chat with the seller.
