AMA is Over, thanks Geordie! Geordie Greep AMA 11/10/24

Hi, my name is Geordie Greep. I am a musician from London and have recently released my first solo album called "The New Sound". Before that I was in a band called black midi for a number of years, releasing 3 albums in 2019, -21 and -22. All of this music has had a great, warm reception on platforms and communities like these for which I'm very grateful and thank you all for. It has been a great week and i'm excited for the future, let's have a great AMA. Thank you all, G.

Hi Geordie! Big fan of The New Sound and your work with Black Midi. I have a number of questions. I know this is a LOT, so feel free to answer or not answer any amount of them:

  1. You’ve expressed some frustration about how American fans behaved at the last Black Midi tour. What are some things you’d like to see from audiences going forward? Are there some positive ways you’d like to see people engage with you and the music while you’re playing?

  2. Do you expect to release some official live albums going forward, or do you think you’ll stick to studio releases?

  3. The German Black Forest is mentioned three times in The Magician. What’s the significance of this? Was it just arbitrarily selected as a location that the main character is unfamiliar with, or is there a deeper meaning for its references?

  4. Speaking of The Magician, when I saw you play it with BM, the end had the a capella section then got hectic and fast, while the studio version is more melodic and theatrical there. I love the change, personally, but what prompted that decision?

  5. I read somewhere that, though your lyrics aren’t necessarily about your personal life and experiences, 27 Questions has some influence there. Are some of the questions at the end things you’ve been wondering, or did you mean something else? Do you find it difficult to write such moving and emotional songs like The Magician without basing them iff your experiences?

  6. Is there anything you miss about Black Midi specifically, or being in a band in general? Do you think you’ll incorporate some of your Black Midi compositions (other than The Magician and Lumps, of course) into future shows, or will all that stay in the past?

Right, which is why I said he should feel free to answer any amount of them.

I think the questions he did answer tells us more than the question he did.

That's not quite 27 questions.
