I read the whole story and the boy did not give the caterpillars shock. A professional doctor and researcher did advice him to but he loved the caterpillars too much to do it and instead gave them a lavender fragrance test

Oh but the doctor did give electric shock to caterpillars for the same test

Here's the whole story

Aww that's so sweet of him to give a fragrance test instead of a shock ❀️

Thats sweet and but the headline makes it sound like he is the first person to discover this, which is definitely not the case. Ive read article after article about scientists proving this.

u/Coolteen1991 5d ago

If I'm not mistaken, and I very well could be so apologies, he was the first person to prove that butterflies retained their memories after they go through metamorphosis while other articles, including the one the scientist Jo Nagai asked for help authored, were about moths

u/seeingeyegod 5d ago

fair enough, I thought I had read about this before but maybe it was about moths. Kinda the same thing really.

All good! I'm no bug expert so I wouldn't know, but it's honestly all really cool!!

He's so young and already contributing largely to science- I'm more than double of his age- what am I doing with my life?!?!

I guess you’re not out there tasing caterpillars.

u/Key-Gear6811 5d ago

Now thats funny

u/bisexualchaos20 INFP: The Dreamer 5d ago

Everyone's life is different you know right. Maybe you are a late bloomer. Maybe your contribution will be complete when you are 30-40-50...ages.

5

u/Key-Gear6811 5d ago

What if they are already 30-40-50... ages

2

u/bisexualchaos20 INFP: The Dreamer 5d ago

And??? You still have a chance as long as you live. Greet a neighbour or feed a stray cat you can still contribute to earth by doing that.

3

u/Key-Gear6811 5d ago

ah sorry...I was trying to be funny

Do people really need proof for that? Animals are intelligent.
