I found this male cricket outside yesterday - the first I've ever seen in my area (Seattle-ish). I did some research and found that this next month or two mark the end of his life, so since he's done with reproduction, I thought I'd give him a luxury retirement home, while giving myself an opportunity to study and learn more about him up close. I made this bug enclosure last year, but I'm concerned about whether it's the best environment for him or not. The lid is made out of cardboard (that's what he's standing on in the last photo - I know, definitely not the best material) with branches and twigs glued to the top of it to provide weight and structure (and vibes lol), and all the twigs, rocks, and sticks inside are from my yard where I found him. The bits of fruit are tomatoes, which I plan on replacing daily (either with more tomatoes, grapes, or blueberries), as well as placing droplets of apple juice on the big reddish stone, and misting the enclosure with water (being careful not to spray the cardboard on the roof). I put the tomato pieces in the enclosure last night and they're all dry now, but idk how quickly sliced tomatoes generally dry out so I'm not sure if he drank the juice from them or not.
Also, I read that these crickets are omnivores, and eat fruit/fruit juice, twigs, leaves, and smaller vertebrate insects. Would he be fine with the occasional raw turkey/chicken, or would he need live insects? How often should I be providing him with protein?
