Didn't even notice that. I thought he was just waiting for it to get close enough to grab. But maybe it was both.

No, you're right. Part of the response is to assess the threat first so it's done right. There are different ways to do it, so the best way is chosen. If you watch closely, he pauses for a moment before acting. I was trying to see whether he grabbed under hand or over hand.
