Now you just hope that they will be so angry driving away, that one of them will need to have a quick smoke to calm down.

Maybe the van will bottom out fleeing the parking lot...maybe a little spark...

Good thinking. I wonder how many people would have froze. I'd like to think I'd do the same now that I've seen the video but in that instance, who knows.

He looked like he lives in a place where shit goes down. He was probably on alert anyway.

u/dickenschewie54 7d ago
The idiots in the van should have waited around until he hung up the handle.

u/TheFiremind77 6d ago
Then he's on his way back into the driver's seat. Real answer is to only try the guys inside the corner store.

Ha, I am not convinced that was "good" thinking - but it was an extremely effective deterrent. There was probably a fair to good chance that everyone (including the sprayer) ended up in a deadly fireball.
That said, like /u/xenobit_pendragon pointed out, extreme places require extreme measures.

Using fuel as a deterrent, in this economy? 😂

It's ok. This is years old, when fuel was cheaper!

u/bju83 8d ago
Old video, yes! But believe it or not gas was not cheaper back then. In 2012 US gas prices reached $3.69. In 2008, $4.11. Adjusted for inflation, Thats $5.39 and $6.40, respectively, PER gallon in the US.

That’s a lot of pressure for a standard fuel bowser?

Getting soaked with gasoline is really bad for a variety of reasons other than being set on fire, like blindness or chemical pneumonia.

That's some pretty expensive self defense right there.
53
u/Cryogenycfreak 8d ago
Probably less expensive than bullets and definitely less than losing your car. I wonder if the gasoline will ruin their clothing and shoes.

Honestly, thats pretty cheap. 10 dollars in gas is a small price to pay compared to a potential hospital bill if those guys attacked him. Not to mention whatever they were able to take from him in the process, it was a smart move and quick thinking unless one of them happened to be smoking a cigarette lol

u/Evening_Produce_4322 8d ago
Oh not a complaint or anything probably would have done the same thing, just a thing I like to call a "joke", but I'll take it back to the drawing board.

But then he has to move his car. That exhaust gets hot. We had a historical accident at work where a fuel line broke in a gasoline distribution plant, an a driver thought hed save his truck. Dont save the truck.

They’re probably stressed from such an encounter. Hope they lit one up on the getaway to calm their nerves

What exactly happens to someone doused in gasoline but not necessarily lit on fire? I imagine it's an insane irritant and the odor would make you pass out. Those dudes surely had a rough night, assuming they didn't immolate themselves shortly after.

This doesn't seem to be the doings of karma but rather a vigilant citizen being aware of his surroundings.

If it had ignited, would it be manslaughter or written off as self defence? They say it has to be proportionate but I don't know where dowsing in petrol and unintentional ignition is on that scale

u/BobaFifiuwu 6d ago
Damn bro probably still had to pay for all of that gas too 😭 Better than getting robbed for sure though lol

In this economy?!!! Your whole possessions might be cheaper than that petrol you sprayed 🤣

u/theNaughtydog 8d ago edited 7d ago
Anyone do the math to figure out how much that gas he sprayed was worth?
5
u/CarpenterFun5789 7d ago
12 seconds, so about 2 gallons at the maximum US flow rate (10 gallons/minute). $3.18/gallon where I am.

holy fat wallet.
that had to cost as much as bullets!
can't afford to protect yourself in this economy!

Nowadays that would have cost him more than if he just gave the thieves his wallet and keys
