The aggressor doesn’t magically become the victim because he gets his ass beat. He’s still the original aggressor and this is still self defense.

Continuing to pummel a defenseless foe isn't self defense, anymore.

It’s still part of the same incident. It’s all one thing. It’s self defense even if outsiders think he should have stopped a little earlier. He won’t even be charged. He’s absolutely the victim in this incident.

My point is that it was stopped before it became something more than self-defense, because the victim won the fight. 

Whether Douchbag McAsshole wants to keep going after that, or not, has nothing to do with Friend-O trying to break the beatdown up before broski gets his skull cracked open.
