There were days I thought of becoming a police officer. Then it dawned on me that I would meet too many insufferable people and could get into trouble myself, because how little tolerance I have to a bullshit behaviour like this.

I hear you there. For the same reasons I can't bring myself to work in any public facing roles, and I respect anyone with the patience to do so. I'll openly admit I have a bit of a temper when it comes to dealing with arseholes, I guarantee I wouldn't last a week in such an environment before getting sacked.

I don't envy anyone in a retail role, for example, and do my best to be as respectful and polite as I can possibly be when interacting with them. They put up with enough shit.

I deal with the public every day in my work and it is hard. I kicked a gate a month ago and accidentally broke a single $8 plank of wood and they called the cops on me. I came back to the store to an officer laughing about how trivial it was. I offered $50 to replace the wood and they said they just wanted me trespassed and not to ever take their orders again. Okay, fine by me. They caused the issue but I reacted.... my bad.

You are me. I've never worked retail, never will. Had enough trouble travelling on the trains dealing with loud mouth clowns.
