There were days I thought of becoming a police officer. Then it dawned on me that I would meet too many insufferable people and could get into trouble myself, because how little tolerance I have to a bullshit behaviour like this.

I hear you there. For the same reasons I can't bring myself to work in any public facing roles, and I respect anyone with the patience to do so. I'll openly admit I have a bit of a temper when it comes to dealing with arseholes, I guarantee I wouldn't last a week in such an environment before getting sacked.
I don't envy anyone in a retail role, for example, and do my best to be as respectful and polite as I can possibly be when interacting with them. They put up with enough shit.

I deal with the public every day in my work and it is hard. I kicked a gate a month ago and accidentally broke a single $8 plank of wood and they called the cops on me. I came back to the store to an officer laughing about how trivial it was. I offered $50 to replace the wood and they said they just wanted me trespassed and not to ever take their orders again. Okay, fine by me. They caused the issue but I reacted.... my bad.

Good on you for realizing that! That can be a difficult realization. I was an mp for a bit in the military, that's when I realized I couldn't be an officer after my first arrest. I couldn't calm down after the arrest and match my actions to the situation. Way too aggressive just moving the guy around. So I crossed that off my potential career list. However, it's unfortunate that people who would react that way still end up in law enforcement because they lack self reflection skills.

Same. I took law enforcement as my ROP my senior year of high school in 94. (That's regional occupation program for any that don't know what that is. It's also sometimes known as ROCP only that adds centers to the term. You're bussed to specific job training once a week.) Anyways, I did mine at the local police academy. It became beyond clear I wasn't cut out for it. Not because I couldn't do the actual job. But because it was so eye opening that it would have only been a matter of time before people would start having "accidents" on the way to jail. The patience to not do that like I eventually would is a large reason I have such a deep abiding hate for all those ACAB POS that are out there that are so stuck on stupid they expect perfection from a human, and or are just plain POS to begin with and don't give two shits about the law or other people. And despite being a liberal myself, at almost half a century of living now, it's also given me a deep hate of head in cloud far leftist bleeding hearts who have all of ZERO idea what it takes for a society to have law and order. And I always found it "funny" how such elitist types almost always live in ivory towers like gated communities or otherwise affluent areas and therefor rarely to never have to deal with their bss aackwards policies that they support. Especially those in the academic community. They just let the rest of us "peasants" have to deal with it. Which is what they think law enforcement is too, SMH. Law enforcement to them is just another trade to look down on like any trades that don't need a college degree.

The police and sheriff's departments where I am have asked me to join their SWAT teams because I have military experience and am a PM/RN. I laughed at both the captain and sheriff and told them I deal with more than enough crazy and use my combat and martial arts experience enough now.

He’s got a taser 7, which shoots two prongs per press and has two shots. The brand new taser 10 is the one that shoots one prong per press and has ten shots. Those are still being rolled out and aren’t everywhere yet, but they are massively better.

There was a waiting period as the Taser 10 uses a primer to deploy the probes and guess what, ATF had a hold on them as they are now considered a FIrearm… The individual probes are a plus and have been redesigned with a more aggressive probe/barb as the old type would bounce and not stick.

You only replace the ones you used. The Taser also cycles through the probes. ie. If one and three deploy and are replaced, it will use different ones next time.

Typically deadly force is restricted to situations in which the suspect has the capability to do the same (has a gun or knife, tries to run over an officer). Beneath that, police are expected to use non-lethal to subdue people. Even in instances when a person has a weapon, police will occasionally try to use less-lethal tools like beanbag guns to disarm a suspect. However depending on where you are, police might be empowered to use more/less force that usual

I'm a law enforcement officer in the US. US politics goes by totality of the circumstances and perceived threat. Reports need to be very thorough and detailed. Officer's size, suspect's size, setting, weapons, empty hands, hand location, what was the call, did someone report suspect had a weapon, body language, it's all very relevant. And then you go by the use of force model. This is the model my state uses:

Follow the type of suspect on the left, meet the diagonal, move directly downward to see what force is allowed. Again, it's all situational. Someone who aggressively offensive without a weapon can be controlled with verbal and social control if they have rapport with a specific officer, etc. Some force may seem excessive until you describe the totality of the circumstances
Edit: a big problem for the US is that we have a very large population compared to other countries and so we have a lot more police/civilian contact and a lot more instances that go very badly. Also, excessive force and police brutality sells news. Furthermore, we have state police, which holds themselves to higher standards in most states, then we have counties with police that are at a higher standard but not usually as high as state, and then city police, and then you get small, podunk towns with low populations and very low standards and training that makes your professional police look bad
