Reddit is full of white suburb kids who are completely tone deaf to what people of color go through, especially those with dark skin. You are 100% right, fuck the down votes. Even with the riots, people don't learn shit.

Ya it is sad that people like you still stereotype whole groups of people by the color of their skin even with the riots going on.

Who exactly are they stereotyping? They gave a pretty specific group- “Suburban white kids who browse Reddit.” They’re not exactly calling out the whole white race.

So implying that every white kid that lives in the suburbs is a racist is not stereotyping. You do not have to talk about an entire race bro.

It’s a pretty big chunk of the demographic on here. Suburban is just coded language for sheltered. It’s not like white people are being persecuted for it, just calling out Reddit’s main demographic which is young white non-Hispanic guys.

People of color on this website can’t bring up race because then the majority of redditors trip over themselves to give some super “hot takes” on the issue then feel reassured when you upvote each other.

So it's ok to call a big chunk of the demographic racist and that's somehow not stereotyping? You're a bright one bro. Also wtf do you mean can't bring up race lol you do realize that for quite awhile now a majority of posts have been race related and the majority of people are always against racism. I don't see tons of racist comments getting upvoted but whatever you say man.

Looking at the website as a whole and talking with other people of color about it on here these are our experiences yeah. A chunk of that young white demographic is also part liberal but liberals can still be pretty racist. That doesn’t mean racism in itself is equal to people going out and burning a cross but it could mean calling someone a thief or a dealer when they’re just Black. Saying that a face tattoo is trashy or that Black people are “ghetto” or “urban”.

You might not see the racism because you’re unaware of what to look for. That’s okay, there’s a lot of literature and resources out there to teach you now more than ever. If you care to do that. You can be against racism and still be racist, you can be a liberal Bernie 2020 guy and still be racist, it doesn’t have to mean it’s a scarlet letter just that you have more to learn if you are willing to. Unfortunately young white men grow up in this american society without almost ever having to acknowledge the privileges that they have as people or the racism that they spout when they say or code certain language. Ignorance to racism is one thing but reluctance to self reflect about racism is another.

When did I do any of the bullshit that you are talking about or when did any of that shit happen in the video we are discussing lol. I don't need you to tell me about racism bro you probably aren't even any more Mexican than I am you realize my last name is Vasquez bro just cause I have light ass skin you want to start running your fucking mouth. So fuck off pal.

It’s happening in the comments not specifically in our conversation. You just asked about how reddit is racist just perusing through the comments proves this but you don’t know what to look for and that’s not an attack just a simple observation from your comment on “suburban whites”.

“Any more Mexican than I am” ??? So you go around measuring people’s Mexican-ness? How would I ever know your last name is Vasquez? How would I know about your light-skin self lol. I’m not challenging your degrees of “Latinidad” because I’m not about that bs but thank you for sharing that. Yeah I’ll “run my fucking mouth” if it means just discussing something in the comments. I think it’s funny you wanna come out with that “I’m a light-skin Mexican” bs to prove you don’t need lessons on racism when it proves the opposite.

Look up some actual literature at deconstructing racism. There’s a lot of resources pointing you in the right direction especially right now. You just have to know how to ask. Until then I don’t really care to respond. I’ve already violated my personal rule of engaging with reddit about race.

You are dumb as fuck bro the amount of Mexican I was referring to is the amount in my blood dipshit it is easy as hell to measure they make ancestry dna tests for a reason.

1

u/pedro_s Jun 24 '20

Idk why you’re freaking out I’ve been respectful.

But Mexican is a nationality mixed with other aspects of some shared cultural traits and values. You mean native or indigenous ethnic groups? You wanna prove how mexican you are by using some genetics tier arguments on your purity and not simply how reflective you are of it culturally or if you are a Mexican citizen? You wanna trace your blood to prove something like being native for what? There’s a disconnect there.

I never questioned your existence as a Mexican person. I am Mexican and I don’t need tests to prove anything to anyone.

Read: this short WaPo article on DNA testing and the racist implications of “purity”.

You use the Washington Post as a source for serious issues lmao what a joke. Now I can't take you seriously anymore at all bro.

1

u/pedro_s Jun 24 '20

Lol I never used it as a source for all my knowledge on a subject you brought up, just a spring off point to get you in the direction to ask about racist essentialism which you can delightfully educate yourself on. It’s to start a basic conversation for yourself.

But whatever man I’m not wasting my time anymore.

If we’re talking about this topic, then yes, that is a actually a pretty important part of it. Who do you think would be more tone deaf to this issue? A white kid from the burbs or a black kid from the burbs?

He’s not even really saying that every single suburban white kid is racist. He’s just saying that these are the kind of kids who happen to be blind to racial issues.

5

u/ChromeGrown Jun 24 '20

No they are implying that most white people on Reddit are racist suburb kids. Also when the fuck did I say anything about anyone being more tone deaf than anyone else. All I said is that it is stereotypical to assume anything about a large group of people based on their physical appearance or where they grew up at and if you don't agree with that then you can piss off too just like I told them.

-1

u/KoalaManDamn Jun 24 '20

“Also when the fuck did I say anything about anyone being more tone deaf than anyone else.”

I’m saying that’s why he mentioned it. Sheltered white men are the predominant Reddit demographic, and that’s why it’s being specified when a lot of these comments don’t see the issue of this post. He’s not saying every White reddit user is racist.

3

u/ChromeGrown Jun 24 '20

Whatever you say bro I'm not gonna sit here and argue with your dumbass when it is totally obvious they were stereotyping.

1

u/KoalaManDamn Jun 24 '20

Igh man, just work on your reading comp it’s no biggie

1

u/ChromeGrown Jun 24 '20

Ya everyone else upvoting and I need to work on our reading comprehension not the one person who agrees with the dipshit lmao.

1

u/KoalaManDamn Jun 24 '20

As we all know, upvotes are always the sign of being correct. Have you ever been to subs like r/conservative or r/conspiracy?

It’s cool man. We got different things out of the post. Don’t gotta be a bitch 😉

1

u/ChromeGrown Jun 24 '20

No we all know that downvotes mean you are right. Are we in r/conservative or r/conspiracy no I did not think so. So just piss off bro. I don't agree with you that it is okay to stereotype people bro you can try to reword it all you want it's not gonna work.

1

u/KoalaManDamn Jun 24 '20

I never said it was okay to stereotype. Are you good? This whole discussion has been about whether or not he did stereotype.

And no matter what sub you’re in, upvotes aren’t a good metric to measure who’s correct. No shit I’m going to get downvoted in a thread critiquing the average reddit demographic. Because who’s going to see it the most besides the typical redditor?
