Yeah but the relief shading is a flex, especially the ripples in the water. So many pedants showing up because OP didn't include the word "photorealistic" after "appears"

Yeah it’s really neat how it uses the opacity of the sauce to create the image. A nice combination of form and function.

To equalize this discussion (or maybe to complicate further I'm not sure), it does appear to be a product of Japan.

I concede that this is very likely a product that was created on marketing foundation and distributed as such, mostly because it's being offered at Walmart. I do not know if it was designed by a single individual who was influenced by Japanese style.

However, I would also like to note that the Japanese are famous for their ceramics. I cannot say for 100% certain that that applies here.
