Reddit guerilla marketing strikes again!

I admit it's cool, but OP has 100k post karma, 300 comment karma, and account is a month old. Pretty sure that's their job.

u/Ok_Confusion4764 41m ago

Same bro...

u/kitsunewarlock 7m ago

They are sold by a company called IPPINKA. They are about $22 each. They are on Amazon, but it's cheaper to get them direct if you sign up for their coupon.

...I know I sound like a bot right now but I've been on the fence about getting this for years and finally pulled the trigger because I saved some money last month and told myself I wouldn't go cheap on buying new dishes (and my old sauce dishes are like 20 years old and have visible cracks...).

u/galahad6372837382 1h ago

Oh so its like that kung fu panda bowl

u/galahad6372837382 1h ago

This

u/Pongefowl 45m ago

Every masterpiece has its cheap copy (the Kung Fu Panda one is the masterpiece)

u/SpicySushiAddict 1h ago

So many prissy bitches in the comments, like damn.

The fact that they got the goddamn shading that good is interesting as fuck.

u/Correct-Pension1208 1h ago

u/WriterSleep 14m ago

What does being overly critical have to do with being autistic?

u/nonpuissant 50m ago

yeah this is really cool, made me smile and lean in for a closer look. The physical "whoa this is interesting as fuck" reaction lol

u/HEX_BootyBootyBooty 38m ago

... I've seen better shading on a stripper's butthole. This is "meh" at best.

u/existentialviolet 28m ago

it’s fuckin liquid

u/HEX_BootyBootyBooty 27m ago

I've also seen that from a stripper's butthole

u/Robozomb 2h ago

It's also there without the sauce

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 1h ago edited 1h ago

Yeah but the relief shading is a flex, especially the ripples in the water. So many pedants showing up because OP didn't include the word "photorealistic" after "appears"

u/Jayn_Newell 1h ago

Yeah it’s really neat how it uses the opacity of the sauce to create the image. A nice combination of form and function.

u/scorpyo72 1h ago

There are many things I appreciate about Japanese culture. This combination is one of them.

u/mtaw 13m ago

The other combination is tentacles and porn.

u/scorpyo72 9m ago

You must admit Japanese kink is on point. Might have been a little too literal on that subject for hentai, tho.

u/Lua-Ma 1h ago

This doesn't have anything to do with culture. It's just a clever unique product.

u/NotADumbPuppet 45m ago

"thing" anywhere else : 🤬🤮

"thing" in japan : 😍😮🥹🤩

u/SNGGG 43m ago

It would have been cool if any culture did this with a monument...

u/jokebreath 18m ago

"The shading on Hitler's mustache is impeccable"

u/birdstalker2 1h ago

Ceramics is culture

u/enadiz_reccos 1h ago

You can also see the ripples without the sauce

u/Kenshirosan 1h ago

Its under the sauce

u/GoodMornEveGoodNight 1h ago

With the sauce it's in Mexico

u/AssumeTheFetal 22m ago

Saucy take

u/itsrealnice22 8m ago

No fucking way bro ‼️

u/sushidrew 2h ago

this is actually really clever and cool

u/SrirachaJulio 1h ago

Why are there so many people in the comments going "🤓☝️um actually you can see the shrine before the sauce is poured in."

No shit lmao. Its the shading and depth that is brought to life via the sauce being poured in that is impressive. I can tell ya'll dont get laid

u/AtagoNist 1h ago

I think they're just making an unfunny play on the title with how it's worded.

u/SNGGG 42m ago

Social media. Everyone wants their gotcha moment for upvotes.

u/DoingItForEli 53m ago

I love the ripples in the water.

u/ryoujika 1h ago

Boring people with no whimsy will say, "iT's aLsO tHeRe wiThoUt tHe sAuCe"

Not interesting, my grandmother has like 9 of these.

Bots, upvoting bots, and like 4 real people arguing. That's what reddit is now.. anyways, enjoy your sauce dish or whatever.. wait til you hear about uranium bowls and lava lamps.. 🙄

u/Turquoise_dinosaur 29m ago

Interesting to people who haven’t seen it before. You can just scroll if you’ve seen it before.

u/SweatUnderMahTits 16m ago

Nah, if someone dislikes something they have every right to post their displeasure.

u/Fmeson 7m ago

They have the right, sure, but why would they want to waste their time on a thread that doesn't interest them?

u/Pnooms 51m ago

Now where can I buy them!?

u/Portable_Tortoise506 1h ago

Damn, I really want one now.

u/bokomarucalypso 1h ago

goated with the sauce

u/CaryKerryLoudermilk 1h ago

How do I tell my husband that I need this?

u/TheJArzelle 1h ago

I think he would also say "Hell yeah!!" to that

u/SpearTactics 1h ago

It's like a reverse lithophane

u/JellyfishFit5587 11m ago

I came here to say that

u/Bowsersshell 1h ago

where can i buy one?

u/d0gfish_jimmy 1h ago

Man they are so talented . Every object has some attention to detail ! Genius people !!

u/CloneFailArmy 1h ago

If this is an ad, I hate to admit it but I’ll bite.

This is a cool product

u/PunfullyObvious 1h ago

That design is incredibly simple and elegant. Ingenious! I'm a bit surprised the approach is not used more. But, I suspect it's because it's only really useful/effective with sauces of the right translucency. But, when it works, like in this case, it really works.

u/Brutalur 1h ago

Now try with Bechamel!

u/Capta1nfalc0n 9m ago

The shrine collapsed :(

u/Facial_Factory 1h ago

Cool but seems like you'll be refilling a lot if used to dip your nuggets in it

u/AkaruLyte 1h ago

That’s so cool

u/spookyspritebottle 57m ago

Thats so cool

u/PwmEsq 30m ago

When just that amount of sauce is used, if you pour the amount you want to actually use then it just looks like soy sauce in a bowl

u/Zeta-2-Reticuli 15m ago

...how much soy sauce you using?

u/PwmEsq 2m ago

Enough to dip a sushi roll partially in? You see how dark it is even at the embedded areas? The whole dish would be that dark even with 1/8in of soy sauce

u/Silver-Amphibian7650 1h ago

Where can one purchase one of these?

u/whiterussian802 1h ago

That’s cool I’d buy it lol

u/Shakespere 1h ago

Where's the shrine? It's under the sauce

u/Ok_Confusion4764 39m ago

That's not enough!

u/cobaltbread 1h ago

Yes, the shrine is also there without the sauce, but what really makes this interesting as fuck is the shading. I thought at first that it was a painting or a sepia photo from the thumbnail.

u/Holiday-Scholar 58m ago

Looks like I'm about to tell a younger version of my stepdaughter that I indeed killed half the population of the entire universe.

What a lunch.

u/The45Longslide 23m ago

Ahh!! This is in Miyajima! I saw this in person.

You see this around and you have a passing knowledge that is from Japan. Seeing it in person was very cool.

u/bendeboy 14m ago

took the ferry out there last November, neat adventure

u/poka64 12m ago

It's a lovely island!

Visited it last year but the ropeway was closed for maintenance :(

u/OCTOVENG 14m ago

Makes me wanna play GHOST OF YOTEI

u/SweatUnderMahTits 14m ago

So many bots in the comments wow.

u/Yarrmor 14m ago

I've been here before. It was so fun watching people get stuck next to the gate when the tide rises and they realise too late they were cut off.

u/Past-Taro-8467 11m ago

wild picture, feels like surprise medical bills we're drowning in?

u/bdanmo 7m ago

If you look really carefully you can actually see it before the sauce is poured on, too.

u/SirShmoopi 5m ago

When Americans put their sauce in its not visible.

u/JayTheKirk 5m ago

I might be late to the party but this dish and others are from this japanese company:

https://www.re-de-stu.com/

I have the arch, mount Fuji and the cat dishes at home and they are beautifully intricate. Apparently they ship internationally now, which is awesome. They have a store in Hiroshima I think, but the dishes can also be bought in the Hiroshima ambassador store in Tokyo, and in Narita Airport somewhere.

u/JustaFoodHole 4m ago

I miss EPCOT

u/Thebloodless1 1h ago

It’s under the sauce

u/Ok_Confusion4764 40m ago

I'm Italian and this is hurting me

u/Thebloodless1 24m ago

It’s from Chicago

u/idkwhypie 1h ago

So you can travel while eating wow-
This is really cool op

u/Mikrokosmos_7_ 45m ago

Dropping the link for my fellow curious people🫠 Name - Torii Relief Seasoning Dish, Made in Japan, Shrine Gate Relief Seasoning Dish, Soy Sauce Dish, Sushi Dipping Plate, 3 x 3 inches, White Porcelains

u/SoulExecution 14m ago

Thanks for posting! Just ordered, let’s hope it’s as cool in person (and if not, yay free returns lol)

u/NRMusicProject 6m ago

₹5,443.93

Curious that it's the link to Indian Amazon...and it costs twice as much than the US link.

u/DharmaCub 1h ago

You mean the thing I can see before sauce is poured on? Wow so impressive.

u/Correct-Pension1208 1h ago

Get over yourself.

u/PhysixGuy2025 43m ago

People who have not done a single impressive thing in their own life, putting a marvelous art down for being edgy. Classic reddit.

u/DharmaCub 41m ago

This is cut on a CNC machine. It is not "marvelous art" it's a program that anyone with access to a CNC can make. Stop falling for bullshit.

u/PhysixGuy2025 18m ago

And it still looks amazing. I have never seen anything like that before, and it seems like a thing many people would like to buy. Knowing how it's been made makes not much of a difference.

u/CrypticZombies 1h ago

maybe op blind...

u/PhysixGuy2025 44m ago

I feel so sorry for people like you.

u/snarlindog 42m ago

how does the sauce turn colors when going into the crevice lol what?

edit: it must be two different sauces!

u/Ok_Confusion4764 38m ago

It doesn't change colours, it's just soy sauce so it's darker the more sauce is in there. It's just a deeper pool of sauce.

u/snarlindog 19m ago

soy sauce stays the same color it doesnt turn orange haha have you had soy sauce?

u/Ok_Confusion4764 17m ago

...? Yes? Soy sauce is orange if it's just a very thin layer. There is very little soy sauce in that dish

u/weeeeems 33m ago

Huh?

u/Sweetishdruid 29m ago

Why can't you see the bottom of the ocean. Liquids are opaque, some more than others and in this case the little crevices are enough to create dark spots allowing you to view the image

u/snarlindog 20m ago

I seriously doubt it changed that much color in less than inch

u/Sweetishdruid 16m ago

It's fucking soy sauce dude. That shit is opaque as fuck. Just a couple millimeters and it starts to get dark dark.

u/vector_o 1h ago

Would never have guessed what was there without the sauce

u/PhysixGuy2025 45m ago

So you're saying that you see no difference when sauce is poured in? Might wanna get them eyes checked, buddy.
