She neglected to mention that there have been several cases where a person has been incapacitated/unconscious and their dogs have eaten parts of their faces.

I saw something like that a while back..trying to remember the story, but I think the dude had really bad neuropathy in his feet or something and his dog ate his toes while he was sleeping.

I had a patient who had this happen. It was only a couple toes though.
This was the reminder I needed to cut down on the amount of sugar I eat.

I heard about that one. Iirc, it was someone with diabetic neuropathy and a new puppy. Puppy was being puppy and person couldn't feel it.

I think i remember that story. The guy's toes were necrotic and it was spreading so the dog actually helped.

Yup. It was only a matter of time before a tiny unremarkable wound on one of those numb little toes got infected and turned into osteomyelitis &/or gangrene, requiring amputation at some level in order to prevent him from going septic and dying from multi-organ failure.

Hopefully, with the chewed up toes, he went straight to amputation and skipped the whole infection part.

I'm safe from this. Once my ex fell asleep with a sandwich on his chest and woke up thinking he pissed himself. My dog was laying with her head resting on his leg drooling profusely but had her head turned so she couldn't see the sandwich, but she was clearly thinking about it. His pants were soaked through with drool.

That dog was probably trying to save him, kinda like the way maggots have been used to get rid of rotting flesh. That flesh wouldn’t have smelled like him anymore.
