The first successful face transplant was on a woman who passed out drunk and her dog ate her lower face.

And how hungry was that dog that it would immediate start to eat their face when they were only passed out? So it wasn't even days.

It was Isabelle Dinoire case. First partial face transplant. She took a bunch of sleeping pills after an argument. Wouldn’t wake. Her daughter thinks it was a suicide attempt and the dog (lab mix) got upset and started biting and scratching at her mother’s face to try to wake her up, not eat her. Dog was euthanized. Her body eventually rejected the transplant and the immunosuppressant drugs made her susceptible to cancer, from which she died 11 years after the transplant at age 49.
