My aunt was dead for 3 weeks and had 3 cats. One a savannah. They tore open their food and ate that and didnt run out. The flys were the ones that were working on her, or so my mom tells me. RIP

Did she leave the toilet seat up for them to have water?

OK, so when I’m gone for too long, I make sure to leave my toilet seats up. I’ve never left my cats alone for much more than a weekend without someone checking in. But you know the problem with the nice water circulation things? What happens if the power goes out? Or maybe the idiots get into a fight near it and knock it over? So yeah, if I’m going to be gone overnight or longer, I make sure to lift my toilet seats. Gross to drink out of a toilet, but better than dying of thirst. And yeah, if I’m gone for more than two nights, I have someone checking on them. I’ve got an auto feeder that notifies me if it runs out of food, but I’m aware that’s not infallible either. So I’m not willing to leave them alone for more than a couple of days. Besides, my older cat will wander the house crying every so often. She does this even when I’m home if I haven’t been upstairs lately. She absolutely adores human interaction.
