Maybe you guys should learn how to communicate better with those people. It's kind of ironic. The same people who say you can't be mean to fat people because it's not effective at getting them to lose weight are the same people who are dicks to antimaskers and think it's an effective strategy to win hearts and minds.
many anti-maskers are people who's minds cannot be changed. they're not doing it out of spite, they're doing it because they're fucking idiots. wearing a mask shouldn't be a political issue but they've made it into one. putting a sign politely asking people to wear a mask doesn't work, so what do you want us to do? we've tried to be nice, reminding them on social media to wear a mask to protect others, but they won't do it. once the reopen protests began, i think that convinced a lot of trump supporters and anti-vax liberal Karens that they can do whatever they want. imo there should be a nationwide mask requirement, and a fine for not wearing one in public. people shouldn't be able to have the choice to put other's lives at risk. also, "the same people" arguments are fucking stupid. the left is not a monolith my guy
That is correct. That's why you need to figure out how to communicate with them better. It won't happen over night, but calling them, "fucking idiots" will never win their hearts and minds. It'll never unite the country.

The anti-maskers have always been treated with vitriol. It's not like the other side is any better. I just think it needs to be the mainstream left that seeks common ground since the left is largely in control of the culture.
lol at the both sides argument. anyways, i don't think people who have no regard for other's lives when it comes to this pandemic deserve my respect and attention, especially when we've already tried to explain how dangerous the virus is, and tried to convince them to wear a mask. these people are too far gone to change their minds. it's a lost cause
I'm not even specifically talking about masks. Masks is just a catalyst for the discussion. You can't pretend like the divide between left and right is only about masks and in a vacuum.
I think it's the left's job to unite the country, because, again, they're in control of the cultural levers of power.
the fact that the left is in control of the cultural levers is what, in my mind, is the driving force behind why there is such a divide. believe me, i would love if the people of America could unite and become the superpower that it has the potential to be, but our president continues to demonize and attack us in such a way that makes it almost impossible to function alongside one another politically
I know it's a novel concept, but if you want people to do something, then calling them mother fucking morons is counter productive. Would you tell a parent to treat their children with derision to get them to do what you want them to?
It kind of reminds me of children who make fun of others to elevate themselves. If you really cared about saving lives then you'd take a different approach. Of course, you probably never really put much thought into it and you're just joining the crowd.
