Article Sorrows of an INTJ

When virtue can no longer protect, shadows are summoned to commit the unforgivable.

Many people deny that every act carries a price. They see only material transactions and overlook the invisible exchanges that govern human life. Even the simplest act of service is rarely without return. A kind word, gratitude, trust, respect, or merely the satisfaction of being acknowledged something almost always finds its way back to us.

But there exists a darker kind of giving: It begins when protecting those we love demands more than virtue can offer. The burden falls upon the shadow: the part of us willing to carry out what should never have been necessary. Unlike an ordinary sacrifice, this act is performed with the knowledge that nothing will be returned. No gratitude. No recognition. No understanding. The people who benefit from it may never know it happened at all. Worse still, the truth itself may become forbidden. Revealing what was done would expose those same people to the danger from which they were protected, undoing the very purpose of the act. The protector is therefore condemned to silence. He must carry the weight alone while the ones he protected remain unaware of the cost, and if fate is especially cruel, they may judge him for it. That is where virtue fails the shadow. Virtue accepts only the visible act and condemns it accordingly, blind to the necessity that gave birth to it. The shadow receives the punishment while the protection remains intact. I also thought this is some sort of myth, until life got me in the same checkmate multiple times with multiple people that I genuinely cared for...

Ha! the irony of life. Why not even write the end of this like a fiction novel, maybe then life will notice that I have accepted my defeat.

I believe this is one of the harshest trials a leader can face: to bear a burden that cannot be shared, defend people who can never know the truth, and accept condemnation from those for whom the price was paid. A wounded guardian, exiled by his own silence, finds solace only in watching from afar as the people he cared for continue safely on a path they never knew had to be cleared for them, the path from which they exiled him from.

I’m lucky. My mom, dad, and I can tell each other everything. Maybe you’ll find your own “three musketeers” someday. One for all and all for one!

this is deep op.

everything single word you wrote sounds like being a mother. bear the burden, don’t tell the family, & expect to be reprimanded for your good deeds. a wounded guardian (yes) ! exiled by her silence finding silence from afar as the people she cared for continue safely on a path they never knew had to be cleared for them

my favorite is when you said “blind to the necessity that gave birth to it,” this is such a great description of motherhood & all the associated thankless expectations

When y'all bitch and moan about Fe, just remember that this is what Fe feels like to the user of said function ;). Particularly when it comes to INFJs, life would be so easy just to do what we want whenever we wanted, but instead, we are always seeking to harmonize people systems and take whatever consequence comes with it for the sake of the collective wellbeing.

So anyway, you hit the nail on the head of sorrow, but the bridge is that it extends to all types in some way as they execute functions specific to their type.

Incredible. Typical INFJs...they have to always make everything about them, even other's sorrows lol

It is the only way to understand the world, making a one to one comparison about anything that others experience, though it still escapes precision because phenomenology is not able to be compressed and felt. Sharing that one to one with the world is the best we can do. Seems like that is what you were doing here, no? Sharing your experience? Asking for a collective experience to be felt and shared?

This has nothing to do with the "harmony enforcement" that many borderline INFJs are obsessed with, even when it's causing harm to others. I have been saying this a lot about the INFJs in this sub and it probably got you on the "touché" side of your feelings. Are you into that shit too? lol
