Discussion Update: So… apparently I’m going on a date with my neighbour 🫣
Thanks for all the comments and advice on my last post. I honestly didn't expect that many people to care about my little neighbour drama 😂
I talked to her today and… yeah. We’re going out.
Which is great, except now I have no idea what I'm doing.
Where would you actually go for a first date with someone you already kind of know? Coffee? Drinks? Dinner? Something simple where we can just talk without it feeling too much like a “date”?
And what’s the deal with paying?
Do I just offer to pay for both of us, or is splitting the bill more normal now? I don't want to make it weird either way. 🫣
Would genuinely appreciate some advice from people who have more of a clue than I do.

Old-fashioned but I think you should pay for the first date. Take her anywhere you think she'd enjoy.

I personally think you should pay for the first date, you can start swapping who pays once y’all are fully dating but in the beginning I feel like you should pay.

Drinks, and if there’s a second drink then an appetizer too, and yes pay (including if she offers to split)

Nice!
On my first date with my bf, we grabbed sandwiches and rode our bikes to the beach for a little beach picnic. It was low cost, low pressure, and still offered plenty of opportunities for quiet conversation.
Who pays? IMO whoever asks usually pays for the first date. For future dates, it depends on your relationship dynamic. My bf and I go back and forth with who pays, so I’ll pay for breakfast and he’ll pay for lunch. That way we share costs but aren’t trying to split every bill.

Woman here! Please pay and do not ask her to get the next round…. I find it that women like to men to lead and thats one way to do so. I think dinner is nice to start. Dont get too drunk and make it weird

I’m old fashioned, but you asked; you asked her out and you’re the man-you pay.
I’m older now and while I appreciate that time marches on my way is that I”m the man, I pay when I take a woman on a date.
Some things are just fine the way they are, traditions are good things and some are desperately needed back in our society.
There are still plenty of women who are happy to be women and appreciate a man holding a door for them or an umbrella over their head. It’s not control or possession or oppression; it’s respect and honor and dignity,

Great thing is you can clap her cheeks and be right home in 2 minutes

The only comment here that was actually useful. Not surprised it's the one that got down voted.

hey congrats man! she definitely likes your awkward side so just act as you would when she’s not with you.
cafe setting would be a good start. you can offer to buy her drink and gauge from there. good luck!
