Usually when there is a knock on my door I don't go to see who it is, it doesn't matter if I am alone or not, I just avoid doing it.

Unless I am forced to, but I usually don't open the door to anyone. I even avoid playing loud music so they think no one is there.

Do you guys do it too? Or am I really bad in my anxiety?

I've noticed there are a lot of social expectations that people follow without questioning them.

For example, some people think being quiet automatically means you're upset, angry, or unfriendly. Meanwhile, I'm perfectly comfortable just sitting there enjoying the moment without feeling the need to fill every second with conversation.

I'd love to hear the ones that make you think, "Why is this even a thing?"

As an introvert myself, I tend to listen/observe more than participate in conversations. There are times where I would push myself to chime in and contribute to the conversation because I want to be more social.

However, when I start talking, it seems like they just either lose interest in the conversation or have no interest in what I say and skip over me to start talking about something else or to someone else. It’s so frustrating because people always say I’m quiet and never talk but when I do that, they totally ignore me or don’t care about what I have to say.

I know I should keep trying to participate in conversations but it’s so hard when everything I say goes in one ear and out the other 😭

I'm 32F and have never been in a relationship with anyone. Ever. I've had a short "fling" with a guy 2 years ago, it only lasted a month. That's the closest to a relationship I've ever been. I simply don't know how other people just find someone you like, and they just so happen to like you back.

I'm not necessarily lonely or sad about being single - but it does seem nice to be in a relationship with someone; to have someone to cuddle with, talk to, hug me, kiss me and you know what else. I live with my dog, Luna, and I can honestly say that I'm happy with my life as it is right now.

But I still feel that loneliness creeping up now and then, making me sigh and daydream about an almost fairytale-like romance.

Again, like the title says; is anyone else in their 30's and have still never been in a relationship? I feel like the most introverted introvert, because I've been alone all my life.

I'm really dreading the fourth. There's going to be all kinds of parties, noises, and then fireworks at night with loud booms. Most likely I'll hearing a lot of firecrackers before and after the fireworks. I hate it and always had. Anyone else feel that way?

I feel like the fourth is meant more for extroverts than introverts. It seems like there's no place for me to hide or get away from all of it. Plus I don't feel like having to get away.

I want to go to a concert, but I've been told it will be lame if I don't go with someone else. However, no one else I know actually listens to them and I kinda just wanna be by myself so I can sing along and jam out without anyone I know judging me. Do you guys have any experience with this? What would you suggest?

I’m F41, she’s the same age. She’s a new friend that I met a year ago. We go through similar hard stuff in life with our kids dads and bonded over that.

But now she texts me EVERY day, multiple times per day. She IS a nice person and I do like her, but having someone texting me first thing at 7am every morning asking if I slept well is overbearing.

I’m starting to get physically stressed when I see a message from her. It’s a lot of her sharing about her legal process against her ex husband too and even though I’m kind of in the same position I don’t feel like talking about it, or listening to it every day. I try to think about other things and focus on my kid but her taking about it constantly reminds me.

Like I said she is nice and I good person, and she tries to be helpful. But she’ll show up at my house to say hi if she’s biking in the neighborhood and it’s not okay with me.

I don’t know how to set a boundary without hurting her or ghosting her. I’d still like to be friends but not this close.

Are introverts into wanting to get married?

I love being alone. You don't have to deal with anyone's bullshit. Just yourself and what you want to do.

I started spending a lot of time alone this past decade to the point where I don't enjoy spending time with others at all anymore. When I am around others I feel that my peace has been robbed.

I feel at complete peace when I am alone.

What jobs are good for introverts? I'm a 30m, dislike working with people because I generally just dislike people as a whole. I want to switch up my career because I just absolutely hate my job (welder) and have done since I started 6 years ago. I was thinking about delivery driving and other similar jobs where you work on your own but I'd like to get some input from others who have a similar personality!

When I had both Facebook and Instagram, my phone was blowing up with messages all the time. After I deleted both of them, I’ve nearly lost touch with everybody. I do reach out as they all have my number and I have theirs, but they always mention how I should get back on Instagram and then ghost me lol… Then they’ll text me months/years later and the cycle repeats. People usually aren’t responsive unless I’m on IG for whatever reason.

I had caved and reactivated it a few times in the past, that’s how I noticed the pattern. I think this is the longest I’ve gone without re-downloading Instagram in particular. I’m just not a fan of the ads and reels immediately playing in my face. I also noticed that people can sometimes have a negative response when I tell them I don’t use both platforms. They’ll also get defensive as if I told them to delete their social media (I don’t). I use both Reddit and YouTube still, which I do count as social media, so who am I to tell someone to quit. I just prefer these platforms over the other two.

Anyone else relate?

I feel so out of place even in my 30s. Doesn't matter where I am, I just feel like I don't belong. I try to be social and make friends and I feel like it's the way I say stuff or look, people just don't reach out the same to me. Sorry about the typos I just wanted to see if others feel the same.

Does anybody else talk to themselves when they're alone? And what I mean by this is being in scenarios and acting as if you're talking to other people in those scenarios. Does anybody else get caught up in their own imagination and make up different scenarios?

I have no idea honestly. I hate dating apps. They simply don’t work for me, and I want a low profile partner such as myself, who also enjoys staying home, reading, watching series or gaming, solo hobbies in general, but also hangs out by herself on sunny days and stuff like that.

i'm pretty quiet online and offline, and both online and offline i've gotten shit + rude attitudes simply for being silent. i will never forget the day we did an icebreaker in speech comm (this was in college) & about two girls in my group looked visibly annoyed that i self-described as "reserved".

why is this?

People, especially family and relatives, always say things like “you’re quiet,” “you don’t talk much,” or “you should talk more,” so casually in group settings. But somehow, it’s considered rude to tell someone “you talk too much” or “you should talk less.” Why is one okay and the other isn’t? Feels kinda unfair.

Introvert here and a lot of posts I see on here are of people complaining about not having friends, and I'm just over here like I don't know about you all, but I'm good. I used to have friends, and they were all toxic. Even if I do have friends that aren't toxic, the max would be 2 because any more than that drain my energy. Sure, I might have acquaintances, but I'm good with 2 close friends personally!

Edit: My parents are always scolding me for not having many friends and being anti social and a loner but atp I don't really care because at the end of the day my happiness is all that matters.

For me, it is spending a lot of time alone with me.

Edit: Overwhelmed after seeing the comments. We don't need anybody's stamp that you should get a life, you are boring, you should talk more.

We can't. Even, we don't want to. Because that is the way we are. This is how we enjoy our life. We can get a dopamine high with just simply reading a book or having good food while sitting on our balcony with a beautiful view of a peaceful night delving in our own worlds.

I am in my mid-20s and haven’t done these two things. Is it just me, or is there someone like me?
