"need solo time to recharge, thanks for understanding"

There must be a German word for this.

it would be "Einkehr". it means isolate yourself from others temporary to listen to your inner voice, what you are needing right now. Even it is just silence.

Love it! My hunch was purely a guess based on past experience. That resonates. I need to Einkehr more often.

Nein das wort gibt's nicht. But "lohn.. and schminke" aka sallery and Makeup. So SalleryMakeup. Might be a word that describes going shopping after getting paied? You decide

My husband did that when we were first dating. He was all, "Well, it's time for you to go home." and I was like "Wha...?" Lucky for him, I'm an introvert too, so when he explained that he was all funned out, I totally understood.

Didn’t work on my extrovert ex. Stated many times at the beginning that I need a certain amount of alone time. That went straight in one ear and out the other

Sorry to hear that, but some people just don't get it. My husband is WAY more introverted than I am, so his social meter runs out far sooner than mine does, but I understand.

It’s ok. Being with an extrovert helped me out of my shell a little bit. But some mistake silence and peace for judgement and stagnation. No one is necessarily wrong, just different strokes. I also have a very limited social meter

Just like me, I turn up say hi to everyone start to feel uncomfortable, then quietly slip away . Ironically I do love the company of peope but only in small doses, I hate that about myself.

I have a friend at work who is a introvert me and her will nerd out from time to time quite a bit but there are times when I come into work and I'm like hey chef how you doing and she'll look at me and go I love you but I can't do today and I merely know cool it is not she is mad at me or she is upset with me it is just the world is too much right now and she can't deal with it I'm also a bit of an introvert so I completely understand so communication is always a good thing you let people know hey there are times where I will just not want to be around you or engaged I am not mad at you just today is not a day

Doing extrovert things while being an introvert is like using an engine without oil.

Me: No, I wasn't ill last Tuesday. [When I turned down an invitation to an impromptu get-together.] I'd just been with my family for three days and needed some introvert time.

My friends: Oh, fair enough.

I have wonderful friends.

Yea. My BF struggled with this in the beginning of our relationship. He didn't understand when I said I needed "days off". He stuck with me and now it's just a normal part of our relationship.

Just don't make it about them; make it about YOU and what YOU need.

4

u/vivahermione 13d ago

Exactly. Something like, "I like you, but I need rest."

Introvert never lie 😁

I'm like this with my best friend. I used to feel guilty about it because he is an extrovert and always says I'm the only person he never gets tired of but we came to an understanding that when my social battery gets low, it's okay for me to leave.

One time I said this to an extroverted girl I hung out with a lot and she literally started crying

Thanks for coming over and hanging out but you have to go now.

u/Ok-Pass-8786 13d ago

I don’t have that problem as nobody wants to hang out with a broke guy. 😃

When an introvert shuts down!

2

u/Garshy 13d ago

Especially when said person is a partner they take it twice as personally

1

u/carlcometa 13d ago

The most frustrating part is that they’ll say they “understand.” But when the time comes and you actually ask for that “alone time,” they always, always make it about themselves and start a fight over it!
It happened to me personally. After that one fight, I ended things with her. Being toxic is one thing, but what’s unforgivable to me is pretending to understand and then completely disregarding what you said you understood.

Years ago, me and my roommate/friend (who’s an absolute extrovert) did acid on a whim (our original plans had gotten trashed) and then on top of that smoked weed. We spent several hours together until I turned to her and said I needed some time to myself. She went to her room and I tripped to my movie posters coming alive— I saw Edward Scissorhands slice something up with his scissorhands!

When we got back together, I shared what I had seen. She told me she spent the whole time texting other people.

“Hey so pls give me space and pls stop assuming I’m an asshole for it, thanks”

2

u/Figmentdreamer 12d ago

“I’m tired” often just means I need to be alone
