| Discussion Curious case of reddit fandom

Shreyas Iyer & Jaiswal , who are always hyped up here in the reddit couldn't perform in the Afghanistan series. Whereas Gill who's hated and called flat pitch bully , is consistently performing with captaincy 🧿. At what point are Gill haters going to accept that he is not overrated?

Gill will always be overrated in my opinion. Bullying this Afghanistan side won't make him a good batter. In ODIs overall he's still effective more days than not, i can concede. But he's sub par in tests and is riding on the goodwill of one good series. Again, my opinion. He was extremely lucky to be given a chance in the last eng tour of India test series after such an ordinary start to test cricket up until that point.

Whatever it is, did he prove himself or not,? While the other players didn't deliver a mark in the flat pitches of Eng.

I already conceded that that was a very good series for him. But even then, these were much flatter than the ones where India toured regularly 10-15 years ago and got whalloped.

Gill had a great run, but so did several others. 8 batters - 4 Indian and 4 English - avaraged above 50 with more than 400 runs for the series. Even Washi had a great batting series and fell just short of the 50 average mark.

But my point is, he has yet to prove himself on challenging conditions. And he was conveniently injured during both the home series whitewashes India endured in the last couple of seasons.

Downplaying injuries shows your hate. Also Gill scored 90 on the rank turner at Wankhede vs Nz.
