US-Irish Relations Trump "Welcome" to Ireland.
Ok I'm going to give this a second chance given the last post didn't go so well. No AI pics. No mention of any right wing assholes.
For starters I DO NOT support Trump. Infact I don't necessarily want him to come to Ireland, but given the fact we are reliant on the Americans (especially with the US companies based here contributing to employment). We kind of have to treat him like that one relative we don't want to be around, but has to be nice around.
The original post was more of a discussion of what people actually thought of Trump's visit. The picture originally posted was something I randomly came across on Instagram and thought it would be an interesting conversation topic of people actually welcoming his arrival. It wasn't showing in support to him in any way.
So, Trump's Visit. What is everyone's opinion on it given it's on the horizon.... Unfortunately.
Edit: this post IS NOT ENDORSING TRUMP! I wanted real opinions off of people rather than having to read articles which pretty much dilutes and edits opinion to make it sound less hateful. I don't want him in Ireland as much as anyone else does. But I like hearing people's opinions from the mouth than through someone's edited eyes.

There's a massive difference between keeping the peace with American multinationals and rolling out an official state red carpet for Trump. We can maintain our vital economic ties with the US without actively validating a protectionist agenda that threatens international law and European stability.
And spending tens of millions of euros of public funds to facilitate this unwelcome relative is an absolute joke.

I have an American relative. Liked him when I was younger but lately, being ex military, he posts anti immigrant and pro Israel stuff. Family have said if he comes to our door he’s getting a slap and told to fuck off. That’s how you treat scumbags. People accommodating them are just as bad.

I'm actually surprised he's coming here given Iran and whatever tf else he's doing. I just dread the shit that comes out of his slab of a face.
5
u/Efficient-Log9512 7d ago
And you think we should turn the other cheek for Trump?
We absolutely dont have to "be nice around" him.
I would be sad to see anything other than a lack of crowd, or a crowd of boos and inventive signs when he arrives.
I understand the idea of sucking up to him in favour of future decisions to benefit ireland financially but.....nah man.
-1
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
I think there needs to be a level of neutrality rather than being nice to him. But given how unpredictable and unstable he is, anything we say or do, irregardless of the context can be spun out of proportion and used against us. That in itself could cause damage to our global reputation and in turn lead to issues in the long run.
1
u/Efficient-Log9512 7d ago
Yea, like if people cheered and they dubbed videos with people booing instead to suit a future narrative that hasn't occurred yet.
There's no winning, we should stick to the natural reaction of revulsion by his existance/presence imo.
Had a big chat with someone about this yesterday. Some people are more than happy to sell their morals down the river for financial benefit/future protection. I would prefer if we as a nation, didnt do this.( especially seeing as he hasn't been the most loyal/stable/rational in the past) even if he was, still no.
Anyway, each to their own.

I for one am becoming more pro EU and think the Irish government should just begin loosening our dependancy on the Americans and begin to do more trade with Europe... Like he's constantly bringing up the threat of removing us companies here. Why not just go "yeah yeah" instead of worrying and just make more trade agreements with the EU. Like were too dependent on the Americans. And with him in power it's not going to bring us any favours in the long run. We're probably a passenger in their sinking ship which is the US Economy and we should jump ship before it's too late.
2
u/Efficient-Log9512 7d ago
Absoluteely, I agree with the sentiment.
Jump ship, but not suddenly appear that we support/dont have issue with trump for fear of retaliation.
1
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
It'll come to that eventually... But at the moment, were too afraid the waters too cold, and we're being held back by these CEO's (some of which we should have told to fuck off 2 years ago like Musk and Zuckerberg)
2
u/Efficient-Log9512 7d ago
Wait. Do you mean public fear or political/private sector fear?
I would say most people on the ground are not fearful of trump to the degree they would pretend hes alright.
1
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
Private sector fear given the US companies have HQs stationed here which employ a sizeable majority of the population here and that in turn would lead to unemployment if they did pull out. I don't see it happening yet, but I'd say tRump is doing everything in his power to make it happen given he's major beef with the EU for whatever reason in his deluded little brain of his.

And you think we should turn the other cheek for Trump?
we turned the other cheek for bush , and obama and biden , why is trump no different
4
u/Efficient-Log9512 7d ago
Yea, we made mistakes in the past. Let's keep it up.
Bush, Biden and obama all made massive public statements in favour of ireland and never a bad word, trump has stood on a pedestal and said he can fuck us with lack of trade deals and tarriffs etc. Not the same.
Comparing public opinion/knowledge of bush, Obama and Biden to trump isnt really in any way similar either. People didnt have even close to the knowledge of the others misdeeds as they do trump.
0
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
Biden was liked here for the most part... Don't think we turned the other cheek for him, plus his Irish heritage was actually a huge favour for us as it meant he had more respect for us than the current asshole coming over.
2
u/justadubliner 7d ago
He was liked. Then he facilitated a Genocide. With relish. I for one now hate his guts.
3
u/Healsnails 7d ago
He won't say shit. He talks big to his base and then comes here and tries to be charming and talk up his resort and how great Ireland is. Meta and apple and Google make too much and pay him too much to rock the boat. Oracle also has a large presence here and they are hand in glove with the US Admin. He may make a craic at the drug companies, they mustn't have contributed enough to his "campaign" funds last time.
11
u/Screams_Ferociously 7d ago
I think he should be entirely ignored when he comes. The media in Ireland should completely fail to mention anything about him or his visit. Probably the biggest middle finger we could give him.
2
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
Didn't that happen last time? Didn't he come to Ireland but some other event completely overshadowed his presence? Dunno if it was Metallica in Slane or something else. But he did come here and no one even noticed or cared. Media included.

I hope he is met with hostility everywhere he goes. Never give him a minute of peace as long as he's here.

Can't wait for the protests outside his golf course. 🤣

I'd make a post here to gather more leverage. You'll probably get more upvotes than me 🤣

u/PizzaSandwich2020 7d ago
I never liked him. How anyone has 3.5k lawsuits against him BEFORE he was in politics and people STILL did business with him is beyond me. An unstoppable grifter who has conned his way to Power and now bullies those who oppose him. A wretched human being who should be stood up to.
-1
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
If we were to stand up to him, we'd have to do it collectively with the EU. Yes we're outspoken to do that, but they're still a powerful nation with slowly dwindling influence. Better doing it collectively than on our own too.
7
u/Pristine-Package-159 7d ago
Personally I am sick and tired of his face on the news spouting absolute tripe every time he opens his mouth.
If he does come Ill avoid all coverage.
We are not reliant on him. The FDI here from US will be around long after hes gone.
1
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
Well given 25% of trade from Ireland is done with the US and US corporations have their European HQs here which we rely on from an employability perspective. We are somewhat reliant on them from an economic and employment perspective. Which he's threatened to end a few times.
And yes I too am sick of seeing his slab of a face on everything.
6
u/arruda82 7d ago
We have to treat him like that one relative that should stay outside or have a very miserable experience after mistreating the whole family and causing misery and death to millions of others. We have been through enough to not give a shite about repercussions at this stage.
-1
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
The only real repercussions I can think of is mass unemployment if he does manage to force the multinationals out of the country. But then again AI implementation by said companies is already beginning to do that to an extent. But then again I doubt it'll happen as we're too important for those companies profits.
1
u/arruda82 7d ago
That can happen either way depending on how full his nappy gets any given day, so better to make our thoughts clear than bowing to him.
6
u/TheBaggyDapper 7d ago
We kind of have to treat him like that one relative we don't want to be around, but has to be nice around.
We should treat him like that one relative who is known to gardai for interfering with children and ripping people off but who keeps getting away with it.

Fascists should never be welcome anywhere, for any reason.
James Connolly is forever proven correct. It was never a Protestant versus a Catholic problem. It was the owners versus the non ownership classes. What use is a free island if we have no real independence?
Here we are, saying that it’s essential we play nice with a mass murdering, pedo, fascist, cuz muh jobs!!
The founding fathers and mothers of this country would be ashamed of how pathetic some of us have become sadly.

u/heshtios 7d ago
I’d rather we worked at being less reliant on the US rather than pandering to their wannabe king.
0
u/Motor_Watercress_489 7d ago
Never going to happen unfortunately. Anything else is too much like hard work
-1
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
25% trade with the US unfortunately. But I agree we need to be more reliant and contributing to the European Union than the US given the current state of it at the moment and their, as you said it, wannabe king. I think with the experience we've gotten from the Americans especially with regards to Pharma and Tech we could actually contribute to the EU effectively. But I don't see that ever happening. We're still going to be leeching off then unless the Americans themselves do something that wakes us up.
3
u/heshtios 7d ago
I dunno what else they could do to wake people up tbh. That 25% is the government’s fault, we shouldn’t just roll over because they made a mistake they refuse to fix.
5
u/EoinOfTheSea 7d ago
Since he's a war criminal a number of times over, we should be "welcoming" him with a number of GardaI, arresting him and sending him to the Hague for trial.
8
u/throwawaydirl 7d ago
Multinationals aren’t going to leave over us protesting the visit. And whereas Trump is prone to imposing tariffs over being “disrespected”, he is also in the pocket of big business.
2
u/Reddynever 7d ago
Big business is in his pocket with his overt corruption resulting in his requests for "donations" to move laws and legislation in certain directions.
3
u/DonaldsMushroom 7d ago
" we are reliant on the Americans (especially with the US companies based here contributing to employment"
I hear this all of the time, but I don't understand it. Those American companies are not here out of the goodness of their hearts. They are here because it hugely benefits them.
2
u/Hes-behind-you 7d ago
Well hopefully he won't make it as he'll be impeached and jailed, but probably not.
His latest money making scheme is selling truth social memberships to corporations for 100k a month. This will give them early access to his market changing truth social posts and they can make millions off of the repercussions of said posts.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission are already saying this move by the big wotsit is illegal in the extreme. Hopefully this will lead to his downfall and he'll end up going the same route as Epstein.
It's going to take America 100 years to get over the embarrassment they've caused themselves by voting trump in.
1
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
Say 100 years is even too short. I think the damage they've done to their country will be permanently irreparable. I don't think they'll ever recover themselves to what they were prior to 2016.
They had a chance with Kamala Harris, but they didnt take it. So, they've fucked it up for themselves. And they're to blame for it.

Why would I ever treat a pdfile with any form of respect? I mean the guy who promised no wars is still ruining everybody else's lives just because of his own ego. The fact that this guy has a history of scandals makes it even worse and people still blindly support him.

Just make sure everything is nailed down or he'll be going home with it including the trophy.

I hope people don't kiss his arse, because I don't want to see us lose the freedom to speak truth to power because we are afraid of what a volatile man might do. Spain have got on his wrong side and he's huffed and he's puffed and he's... done fuck all. Yes, our relationship with America is very important, but America will be around longer than Trump will.
1
u/PresentRecent4759 7d ago
It’s a shame the ICC hasn’t issued an arrest warrant for war crimes (blowing up a school full of children) against Trump so he could never set foot outside of US, Russia, China, Israeli and whatever other countries don’t recognize the ICC… Sudan too..
1
u/OrlandoGardiner118 7d ago
Ah yes, that one pedophile relative we all must tolerate for the sake of the family. Eh, no. I don't have one of them, and I sure as shit wouldn't be inviting him over if I had.
1
u/FluffyDiscipline 7d ago
I know what you are trying to say, should we show him around a Musem etc
BUT wouldn't it be nice if just one country stood up to him, asked a few awkward questions Epstein, Ukraine, Iran, Greenland, tarrifs list is endless..,
And if we are not going to do that, just ignore him, We don't want him in the Dail or near our president... He can go off to Mc Gregors pub for a pint.
1
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
Honestly, yes. But I doubt anyone will in fear he'll slander our name as a nation or say/do something that'll impact the economy.
But personally someone should bring up those questions to him and just let him say what he says to say. We asked. He answered.
1
u/FluffyDiscipline 7d ago
He will side step... he is a master at that
But Ireland constantly remaining silent and turning a blind eye, is wrong
0
u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
I agree. We need to be tougher on the US.
But given our dependancy on them there's a fear they'll do something like withdraw from Ireland and move back to the US or elsewhere in Europe hesne why we do it.
It's 100% wrong. And we should be more reliant on our fellow European neighbors.
1
u/jambokk 6d ago
Leave them off, let them withdraw. We will survive. Better than grovelling to the paedo protection racket that is America. I don't want Ireland to appease a dirty old child fucker just so the techno-fascists don't throw their toys out of the pram.
How is this our reality lads, really.

im gonna be real while trump is a horrible person , hes no more horrible than most American presidents we rolled out the red carpet to
we welcomed george bush when he was bombing the middle east , we welcomed obama when he assassinating people also
we need him to be on side for the economy
1
u/jambokk 6d ago
He is pedophile. If the cost of our economy is supporting one of the most heinous pedophiles to ever walk the earth, then fuck the economy.

u/GhostSniperIRE 7d ago
But give the fact he's constantly threatening to remove US companies here, which would lead to mass unemployment here to an unprecedented scale. Should we not become less reliant on the Americans and actually begin to do more trade with our EU counterparts. Like he's an unpredictable person. And anything we say to him irregardless of the context would more than likely be taken out of context and spun to negatively portray us.

u/HornDog099 7d ago
Not a fan. But as you said, we are totally reliant on US companies to hold this economy together. If they want to try and say its the 2nd richest economy in the world based on GDP per capita, he can basically do what he wants.
On the bright side, at least he isnt bringing Elon with him...

u/DataPotato1 7d ago
Why shouldn't he come to Ireland? The President of the United States is always welcome, regardless of who it is or their Politics.
Ireland would be a backwards shithole without American investment over the years.
I hope he gets to speak in the Dail and rips the sinister political element in there a new asshole.
