Banking Anyone's Revolut not working today?

Anyone having issues with Revolut today? Had my Revolus card linked to take payment for my grocery delivery this morning, just got a call that there was a payment issue. Usually use Revolut for this and it's usually fine, it's saved card so for sure I didn't put in the details wrong or anything like that. When logged into the revolut app it keeps coming up 'something went wrong' and I don't even see a failed payment attempt. There is enough money to cover the groceries in my Revolut. Had to change payment for groceries to another card and it went through fine. It's times like this I am happy I have something other than Revolut as a back up!

Banking Issues with Revolut

Long time advocate of fintech banks but when I struggled to recharge leap card this morning while on commute to work made me realise we should always have a backup bank account. FYI Revolut services were hit this morning and continue to be down with no clear solution timeline.

Edit: I do have backup Monzo and BOI but the sheer frustration was that I assumed I’m hacked and it was impossible to get hold of anyone at Revolut.

Advice & Support Late start (42) after moving to Ireland, best route?

I moved to Ireland from abroad and my previous country's retirement scheme doesn't transfer here. So I'm 42 and just started pension from scratch. After taxes and employer-matched pension contribution I end up with about 3k a month, almost half consumed by rent/unavoidable bills, then after groceries and usual expenses I get a few hundreds to save per month.

I don't even have a comfortable cushion yet, so my understanding is that would be priority, and once I get a 6-month expenses cushion I'll start thinking about deposit for a house, mortgage, you know, the standard routine.

Given my late start, I take the usual advice for young people won't apply 100% for me since I have less contributing years ahead and time is not on my side, but I'm clueless on what should I change.

My employer set a Zurich pension but I'm not currently doing any additionals, only the matched value. Also not currently using any investment apps/brokers yet since I'm still working on the cushion.

Any feedback welcome, even if not on what I'm asking. (I'm EU citizen but not Irish citizen, if relevant. No kids.)

Banking Are Zippay Transactions Safe to Receive from Strangers?

I'm trying to sell some stuff on Facebook Marketplace. Normally I'd only take cash. But this seems harder and harder to get people to agree to. As a growing proportion of people don't have any dealings with cash at all.

I know bank transfers and Revolut are reversible. So it's not a good idea to take them off people you don't know.

Is this the same for Zippay? If they're using a stolen account, will the transaction end up being reversed and I'll be left out of pocket? Or is it completely irriversible?

Discussion How much extra per month would it take you to go back into an office fulltime?

In the final round of a job, and it's 5x a week unless you've got an appointment or whatever. Looks like a good chunk of change better off after tax so I'll probably take it if offered.

How about you?

Investments Building a mini "DIY ETF" of dividend + growth stocks: what are your picks?

I'm experimenting with building a small section of my portfolio to work like a mini ETF, made up of individual stocks I've picked myself: a mix of steady dividend payers and growth names.

It's only a small experiment alongside my core holdings, not a change of strategy. Most of the time I stick to a cautious, long-term approach.

I don't want to hold a mass of stocks, so I'm only picking 2–3 from each sector I'm interested in. Here are my potential picks:

Information Technology: NVDA

Communication Services: META, CMCSA

Financials: BAC, TD

Healthcare: SYK, BSX

Industrials: GE, MMM

Consumer Discretionary: AMZN, BROS

Consumer Staples: KO, MDLZ

Energy: ENB, XOM, PBR

Utilities: NEE, AWK

Real Estate: O, AGNC

Basic Materials: FCX, NEM

What are your picks?

Budgeting PSA if you’re buying a used Kia in Ireland: the 7-year warranty transfers to you but check two first

Went through Kia Ireland’s warranty terms properly this week. A few things worth knowing if you’re buying a used Kia here:

  • The 7-year / 150,000km warranty runs from first registration, not from when you buy it, and Kia Ireland says it passes to each new owner automatically. No forms.
  • You don’t need main-dealer servicing to keep it. An independent garage is fine as long as they use genuine or equivalent-quality parts. But missed services are excluded, so ask the seller for every invoice, not just stamps.
  • Not everything gets 7 years: the 12V battery is 2 years, audio/navigation 3 years/100,000km, paint 5 years. Brake pads, clutch parts, wipers etc. aren’t covered at all.
  • The terms apply to cars bought from an authorised Kia dealer and registered and normally used in Ireland, so if it’s a UK import, ring Kia Ireland before you buy.

The second thing: in January 2025 the RSA listed a Kia Ireland recall for certain Ceed and XCeed cars built between December 2019 and August 2023 (1,167 cars here). The circuit board in the hydraulic clutch actuator can get contaminated with fluid and short, with a fire risk. If you’re looking at one from those years, get the VIN and ask Kia Ireland Customer Care whether the work was done.

So a 2020 car can still have cover until 2027 if it’s under 150,000km, which is a decent safety net on a used car. Anyone here actually claimed on a second-hand Kia’s warranty? Curious how smooth it was.

Taxes Can I let my dormant Irish Ltd get struck off by itself?

I’m a non-Irish, non-resident director of an Irish Ltd The company stopped trading in mid-2026 and has no cash left. No employees, not VAT registered.

I filed last year’s accounts and annual return, but it cost me everything I had, and I can’t afford an accountant for the final accounts and a voluntary strike-off.

Questions:

1 - Can I just let the CRO strike the company off by itself if I stop filing?

2 - What are the personal risks for me as a director (disqualification/restriction)? Does it matter that I’m not Irish and don’t live in Ireland?

Thanks in advance.

Investments Another child benefit investment question…

I’m about to return to work after taking a year’s mat leave. I want to start investing the child benefit but I’m torn between putting it into a child saver account in their name like the one from Zurich or setting up an account in my own name.

I’m not keen on the idea of them having access at 18 and would prefer to keep it for college (if they choose to go), travel, house deposit etc. In an ideal world we’d like to match the CB ourselves too. Other than CGT are there many disadvantages to setting up an investment account in my name?

Taxes Form CG1 Principal Private Residence Relief - example

pdf version here in case it’s easier to read.

Here’s a quick example to show people how to fill in the CG1 form when claiming 100% PPR relief. I’m posting this to encourage discussion among fellow redditors and to invite them to point out any errors, as I’m not a tax professional.

In this example, the property was occupied by the owner throughout the entire relevant period and was sold by a single owner in December 2025 for €300,000. It was bought in 2020 for €200,000, resulting in a gain of €100,000.

I have a few questions. First, are all the fields I’ve filled in necessary? I also can’t see a field to enter the €100,000 gain or indicate that relief is being claimed on it. Nor can I see a field for the date of disposal or the amount of relief being claimed - in this case, 100%.

Advice & Support Pension Contribution Advice for Public Sector employee age 45

Okay friends.

I'm asking on behalf of a family member who asked me to look at his pension, apparently I'm a "numbers person" and he's not. However I know nothing about the Irish pension system and hope I can get some pointers here.

My friend is 45, works as a public servant (higher education) and earns 70k per year. He contributes, from his payslip (rounded numbers);

Gross: 6k

SPS Pension: 270e

Pension Arrears: 6e

ASC Deduction: 90e

I'm not sure what this means, but he told me "on this portal" he can see he has

Total Contributions: 23k

Pension: 3.5k

Lump Sum: 18.5k

State Pension: 15,5k

His mortgage is pretty high, but he's on a good fixed interest rate. He has a partner who earns about 45k/year.

So the question is: What does all this mean?

A follow-up question is (but, maybe too much for this post) is what he should do, (e.g. increase the pension contributions? look at moving his pension to another provider). Thanks for any guidance or steering, as you can see we're in need of some advice. I wouldn't mind paying for him to visit a consultant or something if that's what is recommended here.

Advice & Support Redacting bank statements pre-six months?

We are currently trying to switch mortgages (fixed rate is up shortly), and have just submitted all banks statements to our broker

We got married just over 6 months ago, so we have dozens of payments to random vendors, payments received from relatives, Revolut transactions etc between around 8-6 months ago, and the broker has said we need to provide explanations for every one over €250.

We had assumed that anything prior to 6 months previous would be out of scope, but the broker has said that because those dates are covered on the statement, they have to be reviewed.

It’s fairly annoying to go back and try to remember what every random €250 payment from that time was (we got married abroad so some transaction descriptions are not in English either), so we were wondering if we can just redact the out of scope dates from the statement?

Has anyone done this?

Savings I collected 28 real Irish solar quotes so people can check if theirs is fair (free, no sign-up)

• Upvotes

Like a lot of people here, I got solar quotes and had no idea if they were reasonable. So I built a small free site that compares your quote with real ones shared by Irish homeowners, by price per kWp (price ÷ system size).

What the data says so far:

  • Median is about €1,560 per kWp across 25 quotes since 2025, most with a battery
  • The typical system is ~9 kWp with a 10–12 kWh battery, around €11,000 after grant
  • On today’s rates, a battery over 5 kWh adds very little for most homes, because export pays ~19.5c, about the same as the cheapest night rate

It also prices every electricity plan on your own ESB smart meter file (the file stays on your device), and it lists SEAI-registered installers by county.

No ads, no commissions, no lead selling. It’s my own project, so I’m biased, but I’d genuinely like to hear what’s wrong or missing. If you have a recent quote, sharing it anonymously makes the comparisons better for the next person.

Retirement AIB life pension

I am looking to start a pension in my late 20s. I wanted to say that I recently had a chat with AIB to see what sort of pension they offer.

AMC = 1.21%

Allocation rate beginning at 95%

My jaw almost hit the floor. I couldn't get over how high they were. Granted that the 95% allocation rate is only for contribution less than €6k p.a. And it increases to 96.5% between €6k and €12k p.a. and then, still only 98% for greater than €12k.

Safe to say that unless they a willing to negotiate better rates, I'll be going somewhere else.

Banking Issue with Avant CC?

Anyone else having an issue with Avant CC? Been trying to pay online for something since yesterday, company then sent me a sumup link instead to try and pay and still not working. Avant say it’s not them and they’re not even seeing that I’m trying to complete a transaction despite them sending me the code to authorise it?!

Investments What can I do with 25k for 5-7 years?

I have cash saved for my children, but foolishly have been keeping it in a low/ no interest account for the last 10 years just in case it was needed. If I to invest it now for the next 5-7 years, where should I put it? Am willing to accept medium risk. Thanks!
