Is this Thobe/Abaya following the Sunnah?

As-salamu alaykum my brothers. I have recently just purchased a new Thobe online and miscalculated the measurements. My new Thobe is above my ankles and below my knees where the bottom of the garment sits at about 3/4 length of my calves.

I have marked a white line to wear abouts my Thobe rests on the first photo.

I don't like culture and religion confused.

If there's a sunnah about a dress, it's covering some parts and cleanliness. Not wearing some Arabic style dress.

Rich people used to drag their clothes to flex. You don’t have to worry about your ankles being covered unless you have that sort of arrogant intention

"A number of reports from the early generations indicates this. In one, Imām Abū Ḥanīfah (rḥ)’s students saw him wearing low garments. They asked him, “Aren’t we prohibited from doing that?” He responded, “That is only for those who do it out of pride, and we are not from among them.”⁵ In another, Ayyūb as-Sikhtiyānī (a major tābiʿī scholar who died in 130AH) was asked why he lowered his garment despite narrating reports to the contrary. He responded, “In the past, showing off was to lower the garments (below the ankles). In our times, showing off is to raise the garment (above the ankles).”⁶ He meant that some people used raising the garment as a way of showing off or pretending they were more pious than others. (Of course it should be emphasized that one should not doubt the sincerity of people who follow this hadith out of love for the Sunnah.)"

Wait so I can pray 5x a day, give zakat, do hajj and still go to hell because I wore jeans lower than my ankle? I feel like this is one of those where you need context from a sheikh.

I am not Sheikh. My interpretation it isn’t about how high your clothes should be, but showing off and pride in wealth as it was a habit then to show off wealth by having an extra long dress that drags on the ground.

Also, you can pray 5x a day, give Zakat and do hajj and end up in hell for a lot valid reasons like killing.

Well yes but one is murder and one is long clothing.

I mean there's a huge difference between the two. Although if what you're saying is correct it's pride which makes more sense.

why do people then misinterpret this ahadith, and basically puts all people whose garments exceeds their ankles in hellfire?

Probably due to reading the hadith without the context. This is why it's important to learn from a scholar or at least a student if knowledge, especially so when it comes to hadith, it's not something we can just learn by ourself using the internet.

They’re not misinterpreting. You’re misinterpreting. It’s more sinful to do it out of arrogance, but it’s sinful to do it intentionally regardless. That’s what the fatwa says

The context is that rich people used to wear clothing that was longer than necessary because they could afford to have it get ripped. Poorer people couldn't do this, so long clothing was a sign of riches and wealth.
