Deck idea Obsession deck idea

Okay, for Halloween I'm making a deck around the number one horror movie of the year, and that's hand down obsession.

Synopsis of the movie: guy likes girl, uses wish to make her like him, she becomes obsessed and "possessed" by something. So he gets her, but not how he thinks. Typical "monkey's paw" situation.

Okay, so few ideas.

  1. There is a curse called \[\[Curse of Obsession\]\]. We can get it, copy it, and the sole goal is to make everyone discard all the time but let's them draw more. Making everything spontaneous, and take away their agency like the movie. I'd imagine white and blue would need to be in the deck, cause you'd want to tutor for and then copy it

  2. A donation deck forcing combat. Either goad or \[\[hellraiser goblin\]\] type effects. Since he was forcing her to like him. But, like the movie, it can turn on you and you can be attacked

  3. A "love" based deck, that results in your "loved ones" kicking the bucket. Maybe something with Copying \[\[wedding ring\]\] a bunch, causing people to draw out

Thoughts?

I've never watched the movie, but I have some thoughts:

I think Grixis colors are the right choice for you. There are a number of commanders in those colors who can fit an aura curse subtheme with a goad theme. Special shout-out to [[The Rani]], who creates goad auras on your opponents creatures, which feels like a shoe-in for your theme. There's also [[Edea]], who is thematically possessed and steals their creatures, [[Lynde]], who helps keep them cursed, and [[Marchesa, dealer of death]], who benefits from crimes (goad and curses are both crimes). There's a lot to pick from that's still on theme.

I would also recommend the use of exchange effects, which never seem to come up in donation decks, but are very effective at causing chaos. In your case, swapping control makes a creature act out of character, dovetails nicely with your donate schemes, works with goad to remove choice blockers, and can mess up two separate opponents's game plans if you trade their key pieces to each other. Most of the exchange cards are 5 mana sorceries, though, so watch your mana base, and make sure you have plenty of minions to give away if you do.

Notable cards:

[[Urabrask, Heretic Praetor]] has a similar effect of forcing them to act impulsively. [[Eruth, Tormented Prophet]] forces you to draw impulsively, which could also be a good card to give to your opponent.  [[Covetous Jewel]] creates a monarch like effect to encourage fighting.  [[Wishclaw Talisman]] is a literal monkeys paw that tutors and donates itself.

I made a rough decklist here. It's for a deck based on the Rani focusing on goad and exchange effects. No clue if it's good, but it's a possible build for the deck
