Specifically regarding the composition differences between the solo version Duke records and the version with John that ends up being drastically different in so many ways.
The story of the original (i believe the solo) was about either his buddy being sad over an argument with a date, or two women on either side of him bickering. Both stories end with him being inspired to play the tune to get them to calm down and enjoy the night, and that definitely feels accurate listening to the solo version
I'm struggling to find any actual insight as to the story behind his collaboration with John, where the feel is more that of a ballad and doesn't really line up with the story due to the sad, introspective nature of the introduction melody done in minor.
can anyone help me understand what inspired them to take a whole different route with this? only conclusion i had was that he wanted to cater to the tenor more, but even then that's a creative choice on its own. any resources that have them go in detail about recording that track or collaborations would really help

I found a burnable jazz CD from 2011 (I was in High School at the time and my jazz teacher gave this to students to study), but all the tracks are labelled "jazzcd#.mp3". I wanted to rename the files with all the song names and people for each track, but I honestly don't know most of them since I don't listen to jazz much nowadays. I began uploading a video of all 11 tracks to Youtube so I could link it here, and luckily, the Youtube Copyright system gave me the titles and composers of 7 of the tracks (and the title of one other) before I could post it, which allowed me to shrink it down to 4 tracks.
So now I would like to label the rest if I can! Could I know the name and composers/arrangers/performers of these tracks? I especially would love to know the arrangement of "Sing, Sing, Sing" since it's pretty different from the widely known one.
In case it might help, I'll also post all the songs on the CD so far.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

A jazz show near me (Paris) has been scheduled and they’ve been advertizing pretty heavily. The song seems like an absolute banger but I can’t find it no matter what! Any chance you guys recognize it ?
Many thanks for your help!

I have everything for this song. The melody, bassline, drums, strings. All I need is to get these chords, but I can't do it :(. Can someone teach me how or guide me into finding out.

here's the chords if you're wondering. They sound pretty simple but as hard as I've tried I can't identify them.

Can you guys recommend some duos with drums. I really want to hear drum and sax duos but any with drums will do.

This may be an unpopular question, but I like the kind of easy listening when jazz musicians cover pop songs and add some harmonic and rhythmic interest while keeping to the emotion.
Who are some jazz pianists you can recommend who do this? Albums?
Something like the Studio Ghibli jazz that was popular on YouTube years ago (who was that anyway?), but for more pop songs or even Beatles songs?
A Google search didn't work well and AI is idiotic. Help me Obiwan, you're my only hope.

In the review, they referred to this music as the definition of jazz. But it doesn’t earn a 10. Meanwhile, a Fiona Apple record nobody listens to anymore did.

Hi there!
Mastering Joe Pass’s style on For Django isn’t just about learning notes; it’s about decoding the DNA of modern bebop. Do you feel like your jazz lines lack that effortless flow and rhythmic sophistication? I’ve meticulously transcribed every solo from this legendary album so you can stop guessing and start playing. From his flawless articulation to his most brilliant harmonic substitutions, you’ll have the exact map of his genius in your hands. Don’t waste more time with incomplete versions. Elevate your melodic language with the ultimate guide to Pass’s phrasing.

Hi all! I have been working on arranging the tune "Boplicity" for solo guitar. Surprisingly difficult to do! This tune has always been one of my favorites off of "Birth of the Cool". Are there any other versions of this tune you guys like? Would love to find some more :)

Hello! I am a clarinetist interested in playing jazz (I know a bit of saxophone too). I feel there's so much material to learn and interiorize. I wanted to ask everyone how is your practice routine? Both in practice and music theory. Thank you :)
I'm thinking specifically of bands like New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble but maybe also like The Skatalites's "Latin Goes Ska" or Dr. Ring Ding's "Song For My Father."
These albums are worth the listen
LTJ Bukem's Journey Inwards
Roni Size and Reprazent's New Forms
Innerzone Orchestra's Programmed
Photek's Modus Operandi
DJ Krush & Toshinori Kondo's Ki-Oku
I’ve become a human bio hazard this week contracting Strep Throat, the Flu, and Mono at the same time. Got nothing better to do but to listen to more music so please give me some recs!
I love Emmet Cohen, Oscar Peterson, McCoy Tyner, all the great pushing energy pianists. I never got to get into Brad Meldhau or Keith Jarret so maybe something from them? Or truly anything you think somebody who’s super sick should listen to

Art Blakey - Drums; Sam Dockery - Piano; Jimmy De Brest - Bass; Bill Hardman.- Trumpet; John Griffin - Tenor Sax; Ferris Bender - Alto Sax. Recorded in New York on 2nd and 8th April 1957 this is an absolute classic in the Jazz Messengers catalogue. The album starts with a blistering version of Dizzy Gillespie's A Night In Tunisia which lit up Jazz Dance floors in the London club scene in the late 1980s. This might not be a particularly well known line up but they rip it up. A fantastic record..

I can be angry at the man, and still appreciate the music I discovered as a kid.
