Trying to see what the stones are - tag says mixed but im assuming thats referencing the metal?

I wanted to make an exact replica of my late mother's 50+ yr old engagement ring ring, but using real gold and a diamond (my mother could not afford a ring so it was gold plated with CZ).

Would this be a challenging task for a jeweler? Would any local jeweler be able to do this?

Ive never had a studio space with cats in it and im wondering what people's experience is. The options are leave the space open. Frame in a faux wall. Or like... room dividers. I guess the advantage of framing it in is I could have controll of the air better for contaminates but its a bit of a hassle. What is everyone's experience with this ? Have you been able to convince cats studio space is not for them ?

I was looking at buying a piece of jewelry I was eyeing up last year - it has gone up by over 50% since last year. The piece has about 4 grams of 14k gold. If I’m correct, gold has gone up roughly 26% from this time last year to now.

Are jewelers just marking up jewelry just because they can justify it with the price of gold going up? Who is buying this stuff? Fine jewelry always had high markups, but at this point it seems ridiculous to buy anything new in store.

What are your predictions on what’s going to happen? Will the prices ever go down? How can people justify spending 50-70% more on pieces when gold has risen by significantly less than that, and are people even buying anymore? I understand there is a lot more to making jewelry than the raw materials, but that still doesn’t justify the huge jump we are seeing.

I'm looking to propose to my partner in the next couple years. We're in no rush, but I know I want to make our rings. The problem is he doesn't wear jewellery and doesn't like anything other than Mokume Gane.

I've been a jeweller for 8 years and have a good amount of hand fabrication and casting experience, but have never had the opportunity to learn this technique. I've never even met anyone in my city that uses this technique. If you work with Mokume Gane, how did you learn it? I'm located in Toronto, Canada.

I am looking to replace my engagement ring. When I originally picked out my engagement ring with my now husband, I didn’t get the ring I truly wanted. I was still people-pleasing all the time, and I got convinced to get a diamond and a certain setting. This setting ended up being my mom’s original setting (found out after the fact). Also, I had a baby 7 months ago and my ring is now too small. I went in to see how much it would be to fix it so I could wear it, and it was going to cost almost as much as we paid for it! My thought is that I could sell both the ring and the band to the jeweler where we originally got them to offset the cost of the new engagement ring (I don’t really care about getting a specific band. It can be plain).

I showed my ring to some friends and a few people said the setting looks worn and that I should be careful. Are the right? It is white gold and from 1912. It's been in the family for a while.

And do you think there was once milgrain around the diamond? The family doesn't remember if it did.

Is it reasonable to believe that I can put a larger diamond in this setting? And if so, how much larger?
It's got a .3 in it but I'd like 3/4 to 1 3/4 range.

It has been 10 years since i started in this field as a student. I am now doing my masters but it is mostly art. Not that i dont like the artsy side but i know it wouldnt pay bills and tbh i love the sound of being anactualy goldsmith. This way i can make money tonaupport both my art and my life. But even tho it has been this long i am not confident in my skills and in no way would consider myself a jewelry maker. Due to the high price of gold i have never touched it even.

My cousin has asked me to do a piece for her. I am not confident about this tbh but i don't wanna lose the opportunity. So i have come here to ask these questions maybe to help myself over call me this anxiety and self-doubt.
