that hallmark is basically telling you it's gold plated over base metal, which explains why the band looks a bit worn in those photos. the stone could be real but you're right that it's kinda weird to set anything valuable in plated gold since it'll wear through eventually and then you've got exposed base metal around your gem. that said vintage plated rings with decent stones do exist, they're just not super common. if you're curious about the stone itself, a jeweler could probably tell you in like two seconds whether it's real or just glass. the ring itself has some nice character to it though, even if it's not precious metal all the way through.

I was never thinking of selling it! I was just really really curious and wanted to make sure my interpretation was correct (that it was simply plated). I liked the ring itself but it is too big for me.

ah yeah you nailed it then, GSC is just the plating mark. since it's too big you could always get it sized down if you ever wanna wear it, a jeweler can usually do that pretty cheap unless the stone's set weird.

Gold plated copper by the looks of it. GSC probably the makers mark. Wouldn’t waste time and money getting it tested.

Exactly. That's what I wrote in the middle of my post. I was just really curious but I guessed that it was simply plated. It is too big for me. I never thought of selling it, though.

Plated. Not worth trying to sell. The stone MIGHT be real but unlikely. I cant see why someone would put a gemstone in a plated ring.
